Azalea, Oregon: Public safety officials were alerted that multiple individuals were observed using inhalants inside a vehicle parked at a store. Once officers arrived, a woman was arrested due to a prior probation violation for assault. She was also cited for unlawful possession of inhalants. Two other individuals were cited for public consumption of alcohol.

Victim of Man who drove Under the Influence of Inhalants Offers Forgiveness
During an October court appearance, a traffic safety flagger
publically forgave the 50 year old man who ran his car into her after inhaling
nitrous oxide, also known as “whippets.” According to witnesses, the Portland
man was weaving around traffic when he hit the woman despite her orange safety
vest and sign that said “slow.” The collision left her in critical condition,
although she is not beginning to heal.
After the March 25th incident, the man pled
guilty to charges of third-degree assault and driving under the influence of
inhalants. He is currently scheduled to face a sentencing hearing on November 2nd,
2015.

Oregon Man Abuses Inhalants, Crashes Car into Wetland

A 29 year old man from Myrtle Creek crashed a car in a
wetland near a commercial outlet in Roseburg, Oregon while allegedly under the influence
of inhalants. According to police
reports, the driver drove his car through a chain link fence and parked on a
grassy area nearby. When the police arrived at approximately 12:40 AM on
September 6th 2015, he was reportedly still huffing from one of his
several air duster cans.
The man was quickly arrested without incident and his vehicle was
removed by a local towing company. He was charged with DUII Inhalants, DWS Violation, Unlawful Possession of
Inhalants, and Failure to Return a Suspended License.

Investigators say the man was driving at a high rate of speed when he failed to follow the road to the right and drove through the park. His car hit several trees before coming to a stop. Police say there was evidence found that shows the man had been huffing inhalants prior to the crash. Additional drug paraphernalia was also discovered. A dog in the car was also killed in the crash.

Police User Taser on Inhalant Abuser in Oregon

A school was put into lockdown after workers noticed a suspicious man on campus. He was incoherent and not responding to staff members. When police responded they found the 33 year old mumbling and acting aggressive. He resisted arrest but when they used a Taser, it had no effect on him.
It took three more deputies to place the man in handcuffs and strap him to an ambulance gurney so he could be evaluated at the hospital. A search of his car revealed a heavy odor of gasoline and cleaner which he is accused of inhaling.

The family of 19 year old Shayla Ream found her unconscious in her bedroom on December 13th. She had vomited and collapsed after huffing keyboard cleaner. Her grandfather attempted CPR until medics arrived but Shayla died at the hospital early the next morning.
Her sister notes “She was "She was starting to become somebody. She was on the right track to go somewhere and be somebody."

A 27 year-old woman was arrested for unlawful possession of inhalants, a misdemeanor in Oregon. She was seen huffing outside of the Bureau of Land Management office. Police say she huffed six canisters of dusters before they arrived.
"Roseburg police Sgt. Jeff Eichenbusch said huffing compressed air, also called “dusting,” is one of the two most common over-the-counter methods of intoxication his department encounters. The other is huffing propane, which people also do to create euphoric effects. A lot people think that because the air duster is legal to purchase, it’s safe to abuse, said Eichenbusch, adding that in rare cases huffing can cause death.
“A lot of kids don’t realize how dangerous it is,” he said."

He had been building a fire near railroad tracks while huffing computer dusting spray he had stolen from a nearby Rite Aid. He passed out and the container rolled into the fire and caused a loud explosion. The fire then spread to nearby grass and bushes.

The officer saw the crash and approached the vehicle whereupon the driver resisted arrest and assaulted the officer. Neighbors gave police the cans they say she threw from her car. Teen Dies after Inhaling Helium

Police responded to a 911 call in Medford, Oregon, and found a teenage girl passed out in the apartment of a 27-year-old woman. Officers discovered that the 14-year-old girl and several other teenagers had been drinking, smoking marijuana, and inhaling helium from a tank. Emergency services took the collapsed girl to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
An autopsy will be necessary to determine the exact cause of death, but one of the officers said, “[I]t certainly appears that the inhalation of helium was a large factor in her collapse and eventual death.”

Drug paraphernalia and homemade weapons can be found scattered across an area that was intended to be family-friendly. Police have found paraphernalia for inhaling nitrous oxide through balloons. The police chief explained that “the park offers protection (from rain) and a dark place for drug users to hide.”
“If you inhale nitrous oxide for too long you can pass out,” said Dr. Robbie Law. “You could vomit on yourself and potentially die.” Area police are increasing their surveillance in the hopes of eliminating the criminal activity.
