In West Virginia a 28-year-old man was arrested a second time for violently robbing a woman in a grocery store parking lot. He tried to rob her and hit her in the face. Police say he was high from huffing paint. The man had previously been arrested last year for huffing paint and assaulting an officer. He has been charged with armed robbery.

Two men in Brushfork, West Virginia were burned after one of them requested a light to huff from a propane tank causing an explosion. The 59-year-old man drove away after the explosion. He burned himself and injured another man. No arrest has been made as the police are speaking to the sheriff about possible charges.

West Virginia Father arrested for child neglect

A man in Morgantown, West Virginia was arrested for child neglect on Sunday after allegedly huffing a can of duster in front of his daughter. Police found the man passed out and incoherent on the rail train with a can of duster in his hand. His young daughter was in a stroller just a few feet away. The man told police that he had not huffed the whole can that day.

A train struck and killed a 25-year-old man who was sitting on the train tracks on Sunday, seemingly inhaling fumes from cigarette lighters. “The conductor told deputies he sounded the train's whistle several times but Haynes did not move or acknowledge the train. Inhalant Related Car Crash in West Virginia Claims a Life

A 29 year-old Fayette County man has been arrested and charged with “driving under the influence causing death” for a July 31st inhalant related crash. The accident claimed the life of a 24 year-old female passenger in the car and injured a pedestrian.
Police determined the driver had been using computer dusting spray behind the wheel and that he was “still high at the time of the crash.” He has been released from jail on a $25,000 bond.

Serial Huffer Arrested Again

Last Wednesday, a 30 year old man was arrested after two witnesses called police to report a man huffing while driving. When police stopped him, the driver admitted he had been huffing compressed gas from the can.
He “later performed field sobriety tests that showed he had a high probability of impairment.”

Teens Write Article About Inhalants

Teenagers are often berated for their detachment from reality, wandering minds and notable angst. Despite being pinned down by these stereotypes, a group of high school students are engaging the problem of inhalant abuse. Nearly a dozen students collaborated to report about the second most common drug among 12-year olds.
Backed by five teachers, West Virginia teens crafted an insightful article about inhalant abuse in honor of National Inhalants and Poison Awareness Week(NIPAW).

A Best Friend Left To Mourn Alone

Some people may think inhalant abuse is a victimless habit however this harrowing account will make the issue deeply personal. The writer tells of three classmates who lost their lives much earlier than any parent would ever dare plan. From the unoccupied seat in class to pondering of why and how, the writer intimates the three stories of loss. The latter account details the untimely passing of the writer's best friend who died from Sudden Sniffing Death Syndrome, a chemical-induce cardiac arrest, at age 21.
As we celebrate NIPAW, this is a sad reminder that more needs to be done. According to the Drug Abuse Warning Network Medical Examiner, there were 500 inhalant-related deaths between 1996-1999.

Notorious Paint Huffer in Recovery

Prolific paint huffer Patrick Tribett is speaking out about his battle with inhalant abuse and publically addressing his past drug use, legal troubles, and infamous mug shot. The 45-year-old West Virginia native is known for his string of ‘huffing’ related arrests over the past decade- many yielding photos of his lower face covered in gold paint. Tribett, who has been arrested and jailed for inhalant related incidents since 1998 (and as recent as October 2009) is now enrolled in a drug treatment program with the aim of getting healthy and sober.
Tribbet was first introduced to inhalants when he was 16 or 17 and continued ‘huffing’ as a means of “escaping” from reality. He says his addiction to inhalants developed despite coming from a “normal and good family.” Tribett was even set to receive a college degree from Concord University in West Virginia when his addiction resurfaced and landed him in jail. He hopes to one day return to college and earn a bachelors degree.
When asked about his plans for the future, Tribbet remained optimistic, revealing he would “like to get straight…have a job and a little apartment.” With the help of a Wheeling, West Virginia recovery center Tribett has maintained his sobriety for 8 weeks and shows no sign of slowing down.
Tribett has also hired a lawyer to prepare a legal assault against several companies who have been profiting from the use of his paint covered face. It has been reported that his mug shot was featured on a billboard in Europe.

A 45 year old man is behind bars once again after being caught huffing gold spray paint. Last Monday, police responded to a call at around 6 am for man covered in gold paint at a 7-Eleven store. The man was arrested and charged with “breathing intoxicating compounds.”
The article notes that the man has been arrested locally at least five times for huffing spray paint. While his 2005 mugshot was the one most will remember, there have been many more incidents since then. On August 29th he was found inhaling spray paint in an industrial park. On March 24th this year he was found walking along a highway with this lower face and hands covered in spray paint. In 2008 he was arrested after police found him staggering through town. In 2006 he was found covered in paint, just one week after having been arrested for huffing under the Interstate bridge.

Infamous Paint 'Huffer' Back In Jail

A West Virginia Man was arrested last weekend after police found him inhaling spray paint in a local park. This marks the suspect’s 6th inhalant related offense since July 2005 when officers “found him covered in gold paint and attempting to purchase more paint.”
Police received a call early Saturday afternoon from an anonymous source claiming to have seen a man ‘huffing’ paint in a secluded area known as the Mud Pit. According to reports, the suspect resisted arrest- forcing officers to use pepper spray to subdue him. Once in police custody the suspect was “sprayed down with water” to remove chemical residue left from the pepper spray. He was then transported to a nearby hospital, where he underwent a thorough medical examination before being taken to the Northern Regional Jail on charges of inhaling intoxicants and obstructing a police officer.
Earlier this year, the suspect was arrested after officers discovered him hitchhiking on a West Virginia bypass; “his eyes glazed over and bloodshot…his face and hands covered in gold and gray spray paint.”

Driver Passes Out In Traffic

West Virginia Police issuing a routine vehicle inspection point over the weekend discovered an unmoving vehicle in line to be the cause of traffic back up and delays. Police found the vehicle’s 18 year-old male driver passed out at the wheel along with an unconscious female passenger. Officers believe both were “huffing inhalants” and taking prescription drugs in the car, as a bottle of Oxycodone was recovered from the driver’s possession.
According to police reports the teen driver was also involved in an accident just hours before being discovered unconscious, wherein extensive damage was elicited to a chain link fence bordering a local car dealership. The driver is currently in jail, and is being held on charges related to a handful of crimes including; DUI, simple possession, fleeing the scene of an accident, and driving without a license.

While the police officers called for medical assistance, one of the men “regained consciousness and continued inhaling the contents of one of the cans.” The man’s mother “quickly pulled the can from his hand and slammed it to the ground.”

Man Caught Huffing…. Again
A 44 year old West Virginia man was arrested charges of huffing paint.
This was the 7th time since 1998 that he has been arrested on the same charges.
He was found with silver paint on his face and was charged with inhaling intoxicants.
Psychologist David Blum of Northwood Health System is quoted in the article, “addiction to inhalants is actually considered by many to be stronger than addiction to heroin and other drugs.”

In Benton County, Iowa, the District Court is being sued for not suspending the license of 18-year-old Jordan Miller who drove her car down the wrong lane and collided with another vehicle, leaving the driver with life-threatening injuries. Jordan was under the influence of inhalants at the time of the crash. The other driver, Thersia Herron, has been left with $250,000 in medical bills and more are expected. The lawsuit says that the state should have known that Jordan was a threat to other drivers and revoked her license after past infractions.
Hunter Baker, from Enola, Pennsylvania was arrested on Monday after he huffed aerosol fumes and passed out while driving, swerving into another line and hitting a vehicle head-on. One of the passengers in his car broke an eye socket and required thirty stitches.
A mother who was arrested in West Virginia inhaled "an unidentified intoxicating substance", and after passing out accidentally hit the gas while her 5-month-old daughter and another passenger were in the car. The vehicle crossed the street and went into a nearby back yard, after which it took down two fences and went over a six-foot embankment. Then, the car went up a three-foot embankment and struck a building. The driver was not hurt but the baby received a head injury and the passenger was experiencing head and back pain.
Abusing inhalants and driving is not only harmful to the inhaler, but can be dangerous for the passengers, other drivers, and innocent bystanders. Parents usually tell their children not to drink and drive, but huffing and driving is a lethal combination as well.
