A 25-year-old Olathe, Kansas woman has been accused of huffing gas after causing a fatal car crash. The woman has been charged with abusing toxic vapors, reckless driving, and second degree murder after. The woman was involved in a head on collision caused the death of the other 77-year-old driver.

Kansas Woman Inhales Computer Cleaner, Gets Instant Frostbite

A 32 year old woman was arrested for abusing toxic vapors
after stealing a can of compressed air and inhaling the contents in an aisle of
a Johnson City Kansas store. However,
this was after she faced gruesome injuries from her actions on August 29th.
As a result of her inhalant abuse, the woman received instant
frostbite throughout much of her face. However, despite the quite extensive
damage, she refused medical care, at least initially, when an ambulance arrived
following a 911 call from those who witnessed the incident. The Kansas woman
was taken to Johnson County Jail although she was soon released on a $350 bond

Kansas Teen Suffers Broken Jaw After Driving While Huffing

18 year old man suffered a broken jaw and is facing multiple charges after an
inhalant abuse related accident. After
he was huffing computer duster behind the wheel his car left the road and
struck a pole. He is facing charges of: “driving
under the influence, driving left of center, unlawful abuse of a toxic
substance and possibly aggravated endangerment of a child because the passenger
in the car was under the age of 18.”

Kansas Man Passes Out in Bathroom Stall After Huffing

A 20 year old man was arrested after he was found
unconscious in a store’s restroom. Along with him, police found a can of computer
duster he had been huffing in the stall, after he had taken it from the store’s
shelf. Half the can had been consumed. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation
and booked on charges of unlawful abuse of toxic vapors.

Kansas Man Dead After Huffing Duster in Motel Room

Last Thursday a 40 year old man was found unconscious in a motel room after he had been huffing computer dusting spray. Staff at the motel had requested police check on the man. He was unconscious when police found him but the report notes that his condition “quickly deteriorated” and he died at the hospital. It is suspected he had been huffing from “several” cans of computer dusters and the case is being investigated as an “accidental death/ overdose.”

26 Year Old Man Arrested for Huffing in Kansas

On October 19th, a young man was arrested in Salina, Kansas for inhaling toxic vapors. Police found the man in his car, parked on the side of a highway. The driver was originally sleeping, and appeared to be sluggish and under the influence when police questioned him about his inhalant abuse.

He turned to Huffing to Escape Bullying

In 2002 the station covered the story of a young teen being bullied over his mild mental retardation. The boy’s mom explained that over the next decade he turned to inhalant abuse to escape the teasing and at twenty-four his “brain stopped working the last time he “huffed” to get high.”
The article notes for six days doctors tried to save him, but he was diagnosed as brain dead and his family was forced to let Nik go. His mom says “her heart has been broken “into a million pieces.”
The story adds "but she wanted his story told, hoping someone can learn a lesson that bullying devastates kids, and the scars it leaves can lead to making bad choices with potentially fatal consequences. "He walked a little different, he was a little different,” Kat said. “If they would have just taken the time to get to know him, they would have realized that he had such a wonderful soul.”

Spike on Inhalant Abuse DUIs in Kansas
A string of DUI cases have caused a stir amongst the police force in Wichita.
This summer there have been at least 4 cases of young drivers causing accidents due to being under the influence of inhalants.
Police report that aerosol cans are being found in vehicles after collisions.
In fact, in July a 17-year-old female critically injured her passenger in a crash caused by huffing and driving.
In a survey taken this year by Kansas Communities that Care it was found that 15 percent of eigth graders in Sedgwick County have abused inhalants at least once. The percent is slightly higher than the state average of all eigth graders.

Huffing on the Rise Amongst Teens in Arkansas City

After two recent reports of teens huffing dust remover Arkansas City Police have sent out a warning to all parents and teens about the danger of inhalants.
An Arkansas City teen was found at a skatepark with two empty bottles of CleanSafe dust remover. The teen was arrested for huffing after admitting to using one can.
The boy was checked by Arkansas City EMS and released to his father.
A few days earlier a trash can was found containing 12 empty CleanSafe cans after a resident reported his findings to the authorities.
Officers are asking parents to become more vigilant about the signs of illegal behavior in Arkansas City youth.

Wellington Kids Caught Huffing Duster

On Sunday, an officer was dispatched to a car parked in a local driveway after teens were caught huffing in the car.
The teens described as "high school aged" were inhaling a can of dust remover.
Wellington Police Detective John Defore said, “What it does is it displaces the oxygen from the brain, therefore giving you that euphoric effect, but keep in mind ... you can die from this even the first time you do it. It’s so dangerous and it’s nasty stuff.”

Man Huffs Then Uses Paint Can to Break Man's Nose

Yesterday, a 33 year old man was arrested for an inhalant related incident that had occurred the previous day.
The man had been huffing paint when he “became involved in a physical altercation with another man.” He hit the man in the face with the paint can, breaking his nose. He was arrested on charges of “aggravated and simple battery.”

Man Passes Out on Toilet After Huffing

A 27 year-old man was found passed out on a toilet in Wal-Mart store. The police report stated that he had been “huffing from aerosol cans.”
The officer who responded stated, “As the guy was inhaling it, his eyes rolled back in his head and he kind of passed out.” He was ticketed for abusing toxic vapors and taken to jail.
Police also noted that the man “has a legal order keeping him from entering the store because of his history of huffing from cans he had taken from store shelves.” It was the third time in a month he was caught huffing at that location and “in one case he caused an accident in the parking lot while high on the vapors."

The article also reports that “one student passed out and another was examined by a school nurse.”
Two of the students are 14-years old and will face charges of abuse of toxic vapors. The other 12 students are younger than 14-years old so “instead of being charged, they will attend meetings to educate them on the effects of huffing.”

Man Crashes Into Yard After Huffing

Patient in Treatment Center Dies From Huffing

A 45 year old man died after huffing computer duster at a substance abuse treatment facility last month. He was found “unresponsive in his room at the center when emergency personnel arrived on Aug. 22.”
The man smuggled the item into the facility. He had “been at the treatment center for three days, video evidence confirmed that he concealed the can of dust remover from staff.”
The spokesperson for the Center notes, “Staff checked his stuff but he had the can hidden in the front of his pants. Everyone felt horrible about it.”
