Cody, WY - A local psychiatrist, Matthew Hopkins, has been convicted for driving into a car head-on while under the influence of inhalants and injuring the woman in the other vehicle. A jury convicted him of a felony count of aggravated assault and battery and misdemeanor counts of driving while under the influence of a substance and unlawful use of a toxic substance. Hopkins was sentenced to 18 to 36 months in prison for his offenses. The incident occurred after Hopkins inhaled from a can of dust cleaner and tried driving to his office only to pass out at the wheel and drift into the other lane hitting the other car.
Close friends of Hopkins asked for no prison time and instead mandatory rehabilitation but the Deputy Attorney asked for six to eight years since this is not Hopkins first relapse with substance abuse. In 2003, his medical license was suspended in New Hampshire after he was found writing himself prescriptions. From November 2011 to April 2012, his license was suspended in Wyoming for noncompliance with his monitoring program. All of Hopkins license restrictions were removed in 2015 but he began to relapse publicly in later 2016 after the death of his father. In November of 2016, Hopkins was arrested after he clipped a car in a parking lot and drove off. Police believed him to be under the influence but lacked evidence to prove it so he was awaiting trial. In June 2017, he fell off his bike and police officers found his blood alcohol to be more than twice the legal limit.
Due to his long history of substance abuse the judge and jury felt that more than rehabilitation was required for Hopkins. They said that he was very smart and new the dangers of huffing but made the choice to drive regardless. Hopkins relinquished his medical license and will most likely never practice again.

A 13-year-old girl in Fiji was treated for substance abuse which involved glue. She was taken in when she was found overdosed. Sources say there has been a rise in the amount of children coming into metal institutions in what appears to be the beginning stages of substance abuse, especially glue.

Wisconsin Woman Arrested after Driving Under the Influence of Inhalants
On the morning of October 29th, a 41 year old
woman from Green Bay Wisconsin was sentenced to 18 months in prison for
operating a vehicle while under the influence of an inhalant. The court cited
the fact that she was convicted of four separate charges of driving under the
influence prior to this latest incident for the stiff sentence.
After she is released, she will serve three years of
extended supervision. Also she will have her license suspended for three years.
Additionally, the Brown County judge ruled that she must have an ignition
interlock installed into her car for two years afterwards.

Woman Faces DUI Charges After Huffing at the Wheel
A 25-year-old woman faces DUI charges after crashing into a parked trailer.
According to the report, the woman was blocking traffic in a McDonald's drive thru line when she began to roll forward and jump a curb that allowed her to continue rolling through landscaping rocks into a trailer in a motel parking lot.
When an employee of the motel went to check on the woman it was reported that she was breathing into a towel. The employee asked for the towel and the woman told her no several times. Eventually the woman relinquished the towel which hid a can of multi-purpose duster.
The woman was arrested for driving under the influence.
This has been one of four local huffing related automobile offenses in recent years.

A 35-year-old man was found slumped over the wheel of his car after police were called to investigate a report of a man driving recklessly around a shopping center parking lot.
According to the report the man drove through grass onto a median and into surrounding shrubbery.
When officers arrived to the scene they found the man slumped over the wheel with the vehicle still running and his window down despite the rain.
When the man regained consciousness he awoke in a dazed state and alledgedly admitted to huffing computer cleaner. Five cans were found in the vehicle.
The man was charged with was charged with inhalation of a toxic chemical for the purpose of intoxication.

Clay County Approves Huffing Ordinance
The quest by sheriffs from Clay County to make inhalant abuse illegal has finally come to an end.
County supervisors passed the ordinance making inhalant abuse illegal.
The law carries a penalty of a $300 fine and a possible sentence of up to 30 days in jail. There will also be a fine of $150 for possessing huffing paraphernalia.

DJ Found Huffing in Parking Lot
A 38-year-old man was arrested and charged with use of intoxicating compounds and resisting arrest after he was found huffing gold spray paint in a parking lot.
Ironically enough, the man was huffing in the parking lot of a night club where he was scheduled to DJ. He never made it inside.
When police arrived, they found the man with a gold colored bag and a red can in his possession.
Police reported the man as being "incoherent" and "dazed." The 38-year-old had gold paint on his body, arms, face and inside his vehicle; where they found a child's seat also covered in gold paint.
When the man was told to drop his bag and can he huffed from the can one last time and attempted to run away.
The man will appear in court in mid September.

Refrigerant Continues to Grow in Popularity
Theft of refrigerant out of air conditioners continues to stay on a steady rise.
After an entire day of a family's A/C unit was blowing hot air into their residence they called a heating and cooling company to find out what the issue could be.
When a service man arrived he found caps and a plastic bag around the unit. Someone had stolen two pounds worth of refrigerant from the unit to get high.
It cost the family about 150 dollars to correct the situation.
They now have locking service caps on their units.

Police weren't sure how long the woman was unresponsive but did find an aerosol can that was cool to the touch.
After refusing an ambulance the woman was taken to jail and the children were taken to their grandparents.

A woman was charged with resisting law enforcement, driving while intoxicated, criminal reckless and hit and run after a report of her damaging parked cars in a Walgreens parking lot.
Officers found the 30-year-old woman blocks away. When officers caught up with her they reported her as "delirious". While attempting to take her keys from her posession the woman attempted to drive off with officers still attached to the vehicle.
The woman crashed into a tree a few blocks away. No police officers were hurt.

Parolee At Large Found Huffing Keyboard Cleaner
A man was found huffing keyboard cleaner in a park.
When police arrived, the 20-year-old man gave a false name leading them to find a warrant under the his correct name.
He was arrested with a parolee at large charge and is held with no bail.
