Man in Illinois Found Dead in a Ditch Due to Inhalants

In Illinois, a man was found dead in a ditch near a strip mall parking lot. The 43-year-old's body showed no signs of trauma and police found numerous cans of duster surrounding him in the ditch. The cause of death is still pending, but they suspect it was an overdose. According to the man's family, he was on his way to recovery and beating his addiction. A family friend talked to him a month before his death and claimed that he was doing great. They are not sure what lead to his probable relapse.

A 47-year-old Illinois man died from huffing computer duster spray.  The man was arrested for inhaling compressed gas in the parking lot of a Walmart and for driving under the influence. He was taken to the Police Department where he began complaining of shortness of breath. An ambulance was called and the man was taken to the hospital where he later died.

A 28 year old woman was arrested after an inhalant abuse related incident.  At 5:40 pm she took a cab to a Kmart saying she needed to use an ATM but she did not come out of the store.  Her boyfriend showed up, paid the taxi driver, and store employees soon found her passed out in the womens restroom. She had been huffing computer duster. She was arrested on charges of retail theft and unlawful use of an intoxicating compound.

The 20 year woman who, while under the influence of inhalants, ran over and killed a 5 year old girl spoke to thirty Chicago teens last week, warning them about the dangers of drugs.  She is to be sentenced next month for aggravated DUI and reckless homicide.

With a photo of the young victim on the table next to her, she told the teens she started using drugs, when she was 12 years old. She also discussed being bullied and struggling with finding her identity as an adopted child.  At 15 she moved to heavier drugs and prescription pills to cope with a pit bull attack that left her face scarred. At 16 she entered a treatment center in Utah and stayed there until she graduated high school.When she returned home, depression kicked back in and she started using again. 

On September 3, 2012 she noted she made "the terrible decision to drive under the influence. I passed out behind the wheel of the car. My car went over four lanes of traffic and hit the pedestrian family. I turned around after I got out of the car, and I saw two people laying on the ground — a woman screaming 'My miniña!' and a little girl. I ran over as best I could and tried giving the girl CPR and held the mother's hand, and when the cops arrived, I got up and said, 'I did this. Will you take me away? I was driving under the influence. I did this." 

The following day  officers told her the young girl had died and she was charged with the accident. She said she has been sober since and has been volunteering at a recovery center with troubled kids while helping to start a "Step Up! & Say No To Drugs!" campaign.

Body of Man Found Behind Shopping Plaza Identified

The body found behind a shopping center last week has been identified as 36 year old Ryan Sailors.

The article notes that in 2009, he started using inhalants to help mask the pain of losing his father to lung cancer. Within the past five years he had struggled with addiction and he was still wearing his hospital bracelet from his last stay on July 21st after he had been found dehydrated and disoriented.

Illinois woman arrested for huffing and shoplifting

According to police reports, an Illinois woman was arrested for shoplifting and unlawful use of intoxicating compounds at a store on the evening of July 16^th. The woman confessed to taking a can of dust cleaner and huffing it in the bathroom of the store to get high. The woman also admitted to removing pills from boxes of cough medicine.

A 19-year-old woman from Illinois who was found guilty of aggravated DUI for a crash that killed a 5-year-old girl in 2012 will not have the ruling reversed. The woman was inhaling keyboard duster at the wheel until she achieved the result of unconsciousness or semi-consciousness. Because she understood her actions based on previous experience, the judge will not reverse the ruling. The woman could receive up to 14 years in prison when she is sentences for aggravated DUI and reckless homicide.

Illinois Driver Extricated From Car After Huffing Behind The Wheel

An 18 year old man has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs after an inhalant abuse related crash.  

On Tuesday evening around 9:40 pm, police responded to a call regarding a car that had crashed into a tree.  The driver had to be extricated with rescue equipment. A can of computer duster was found in the driver's seat and the man admitted he had been huffing the product prior to the crash and that he had stolen the product from Wal-Mart. The driver and one of the two passengers were brought to the hospital for treatment. The driver sustained a number of injuries including "broken ribs, fractured vertebrae and lacerations that required as many as 30 staples."

A 42-year-old Illinois man was arrested after police found him unresponsive due to huffing.  Police found the man behind the wheel of his car with a can of duster near his face.  Police say when they tried to wake him, the man sprayed the substance into his mouth and shouted, "Yahoo!"

The man was arrested on a DUI-drug charge.

A 36 year old Illinois woman was arrested on suspicion of inhaling toxic vapors after police found her semi-conscious in her car with a can of computer duster in her hand.

Officers noticed the car cross the centerline and stop on the opposite side of the road. The driver told them she had purchased the product at Walmart and “had been huffing it” as she drove home. She refused treatment and was transported to jail.

A 30 year old man has been charged with disorderly conduct, use intoxicating compounds, and retail theft.  On Friday evening train service was suspended after workers saw a man place a duffel bag close to the tracks and walk away.  Police officers found the man in a nearby drugstore bathroom where he locked himself inside while huffing from two cans of computer keyboard cleaner he had stolen off the shelf.  The store had to be evacuated and service to the station was disrupted for more than an hour and a half.
