Potsdam, NY - A 22-year-old man was arrested after local police received a report that a man was huffing aerosols behind a book store. The man was taken to the police station where authorities found him to be in possession of marijuana for which he was cited for unlawful possession.

Manhattan, New York: A man was found dead in his apartment surrounded by almost two dozen aerosol cans, one being in his mouth. Huffing the compressed air from the aerosol cans caused his death.

New York, New York: A Survey conducted by the National Institutes of Drug Abuse, NIH, found that there has been a decline in the perceived risk of using certain substances. There was a decrease in the amount of 10th graders that found the regular use of inhalants to be harmful.

Man found passed out after “huffing” inhalants in store bathroom

"Police in Lancaster say a man was found passed out in a Transit Road store bathroom after “huffing” inhalants. The 38-year-old was seen sitting on a toilet with a can of compressed gas pressed against his mouth, according to police. Authorities say he became conscious again minutes later.

During a search, officers say they located two cans of computer duster in the men’s bathroom and four more bottles in the women’s bathroom. The ones found in the women’s bathroom had been used, according to police.

The man was taken to ECMC for treatment. Police expect to charge him with a public health law violation. He could also face charges for petit larceny and burglary."

"Huffing" Suspected in Fatal New York Car Accident

A 26-year-old driver was charged with criminally negligent homicide and third degree assault following a car accident that killed a 72-year-old grandmother. The grandmother was survived by her granddaughter in the accident in Depew, NY. Police reports do not specifically detail duster abuse as the cause, but sources familiar with the driver and her habits discuss her duster use being a problem in the past, likely contributing to loss of consciousness while driving. The driver could be facing up to 5 years in prison.

Two New York Men Found Unconscious After Huffing

"Batavia Police were called to the Wal-Mart parking lot on Veterans Memorial Drive around 11:30 a.m., where they found Jesse Repass, 29, and Jade Repass, 20, both of Oakfield passed out in a vehicle. Officers say both were huffing fumes from dust cleaner.

Both were charged with inhalation of toxic vapors. Jade was released and is due back in court later this month, while Jesse was taken to the Genesee County Jail on $1,000 bail."

Former Model Attempts to Regain Contact with Child Despite Inhalant Abuse

In the New York metropolitan area, a former professional model is taking her billionaire ex-husband to court in order to regain visitation rights with their daughter. The woman has reportedly been cut off from her since their last court appearance in which the wealthy Long Island trader released a video of his ex-wife inhaling air-blast spray which is commonly used to clean computer keyboards.

In response to her ex-husband’s allegations that his actions have been simply been in the best interests of their daughter, the former model emphasizes that the girl need a mother in her life. Also she claims that her 2013 overdose was driven by stresses caused by her drawn out custody battle.

New York Woman Arrested for Huffing in Walmart

A 25-year-old New York was arrested for huffing in a Walmart bathroom.  The Walmart loss and prevention officer reported seeing the woman in the bathroom holding an aerosol can close to ther face.  The woman's son was waiting outside.

Upon her arrest police found drugs prescribed to other people, along with a bag of marijuana in her possession.  She faces charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal use of drug paraphernalia.  She also faces charges of unlawful possession of toxic vapor and unlawful possession of marijuana.

New York Woman Arrested for Huffing Dusters

A 20-year-old New York woman was arrested for stealing and inhaling multiple cans of computer duster outside the local Walmart.  According to Geneseo Police this is the second or third time the woman has been arrested for huffing.  In the past she has locked herself in the Walmart bathroom to huff.

New York teenager injured after huffing and driving

On July 12, a teenager huffing behind the wheel was injured after he passed out and maneuvered his vehicle into a tree. A woman called the police to report two young men that she believed were abusing drugs in a 2004 Jeep Cherokee parked in Plattsburgh. As police were on their way to the scene, the car had driven away and headed to the South turnpike. A witness followed the vehicle and observed the car driving into the East shoulder of the turnpike and hit several mailboxes. The car swerved across lanes before hitting a tree on the East side. The driver, a 17-year-old male, was behind the wheel and had blacked out. He was taken to the hospital for chest injuries that he sustained in the crash. 

The second male passenger, age 16, told officers he had grabbed the steering wheel to attempt to control the vehicle. In the car, police found a compressed-gas duster can as well as a small amount of Marijuana. After being released by the hospital, the driver was arrested by police and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and illegal sale and use of toxic vapors, a misdemeanor under NY State Public Health Law. The 17-year-old driver was also ticketed for third-degree aggravated unlawful unlicensed operation, failure to keep right, failure to maintain lane, moving from lane unsafely, reckless driving, and failure to obey a traffic control device. The teen is scheduled to appear in Court at 5pm on the 17^th of July.

Stolen Dusters and Police Chase in New York

A 36 year old man stole several cans of computer duster from a Staples store and led police officers and state troopers on a chase.  He was found stopped on the Parkway, officers noticed him huffing from the can, and he refused to leave the car. He was pulled from the car and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, resisting arrest, and petty larceny.

Huffing on the Increase and a Concern in New York

Earlier this year a 20 year old Greenwich man was found unconscious and nearly died after huffing computer dusting spray.   Police noted they took “garbage bags full of empty cans out of his apartment.” 

Cambridge-Greenwich Police Chief George Bell said his department has encountered a number of situations in which young people have been inhaling products in an effort to get high. Additionally, the executive director of The Council for Prevention of Alcohol and Substance Abuse in Hudson Falls, said “huffing” of aerosol products has gained popularity on and off over the past 5 or 6 years and that it is on the upswing in the region.

New York Woman Arrested for Shoplifting and Huffing

A 30-year-old woman was arrested earlier this week in Syracuse, NY after she was found in the bushes huffing from a can of air duster. She admitted to stealing more than 19 cans of duster from a nearby Walmart and was subsequently booked on charges of shoplifting, criminal trespass and possession of nitrous oxide with intent to use. As a result, she may face prison time. This is not her first arrest for shoplifting or drug use.

Man Found Dead in Hotel - Daeth Attributed to Inhalant Abuse

A 22 year old man was found dead in a  hotel room in February 2013. His death was ruled attributable to inhalant abuse.  During the investigation police discovered another 22 year old man had been in the room and had tried to conceal evidence of what had happened. He has been charged with tampering with physical evidence, a class E felony.
