Delaware Man Faces Charges of Huffing While Driving

A witness reported that a 31-year-old Delaware man was huffing from a balloon while operating a motor vehicle. The man denied the the action but was later arrested for charges of inhaling harmful intoxicants.

Woman Found Dead in Delaware Motel: Inhalant Abuse-related

A 27 year old woman was found dead on Saturday October 3^rd 2015. The police were alerted of this occurrence by her 31 year old boyfriend who claimed to have found her in a motel in a Murfreesboro, Delaware motel room.

The boyfriend told the authorities that the woman had inhaled duster the night before. However, the exact cause and manner of death has yet to have been reported by the local medical examiner’s office. Currently the Murfreesboro police department is considering the incident to be part of an “unintended death investigation.”

Inhalant Call Leads to Marijuana Bust

Police were sent to a Delaware residence after a 51-year-old man called for medical assistance. A 21-year-old resident of the house had started to seize after inhaling a can of electronic duster.

When police arrived, the young man had been removed by a relative, and officers instead found 12 marijuana plants. The 51-year-old man was arrested for possessing and cultivating marijuana.

Five Students Caught Huffing in Delaware

Five students in Delaware were charged for illegal use of solvents after they were caught huffing on a school bus.

Police learned that one of the students was supposed to be in an after-school program but instead walked to a nearby store to purchase computer duster. Three of the students huffed the duster on the way back to school. According to surveillance video, two additional students later inhaled the duster on a school bus.

Delaware Crash Attributed to Inhalant Abuse

A 28 year-old woman was arrested after crashing her car in an inhalant related accident.

When police responded, the woman was huffing computer dusting spray from the canister. They ordered her out of the car and she continued huffing the product until she passed out. Police then had to break the window to rescue her. She was taken to the hospital and charged with “reckless driving and inhaling substances releasing vapors or fumes.”

Car Crashes Into House in Delaware

The community of Claymont Delaware is concerned about the destruction of three houses over the past two weeks. In each case, a car crashed into a house with a family inside.

In one of the crashes, the 20 year old driver “reportedly passed out at the wheel while huffing.”

He hit a house where a dad was inside playing legos with his two young children. The father notes, "He was going 65 to 70 and basically used his car as a missile into my house.” He also stated that his children can't sleep at night and that they can’t return home because the house has been condemned.

Drug Prevention

February 10-16 is the National Drug Prevention and Education Week, introduced by Senators Joseph R. Biden, Jr. and Charles Grassley from Delaware and Iowa, respectively. Both senators hold seats on the Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control. From Senator Grassley:

"This resolution urges communities to engage in the dialogue that will help stop drug use before it ever starts. The more people talk about and understand the dangers of drugs, the better off we'll be."

This week is also a good time for parents to discuss inhalant use with their children if they have not already done so.
