Georgia Officials Warn of Inhalant Abuse Linked Health Risks

Officials in Georgia warn that teens who abuse various household items. In particular they want to spread awareness of sudden sniffing death syndrome. As its name suggests, it occurs when people inhale certain substances that cause rapid damage to the cardiovascular system.

Furthermore, officials describe how many teens and preteens are attempting to get drunk on alcohol-based hand sanitizer. In response to the rise of this action, these officials are warning parents and educators that this action can be quite harmful since it the alcohol in hand sanitizer is not meant for human consumption.

Pennsylvania Man Arrested for Stealing and Abusing Inhalants

 A 29 year old man from Lancaster, Pennsylvania was charged with theft and illegal use of certain solvents and noxious substances on October 12^th, 2015. This occurred after he overdosed as a result of huffing compressed air spray. Furthermore, local officials claim that the man reported stealing two cans of air spray.

Man from Poulsbo, Washington Dies after Inhaling Air Duster

A 29 year old man from Poulsbo, Washington fell into cardiac arrest subsequently and died on Saturday October 10^th, 2015. He had been taken to Harrison Medical Center after police took him into custody. As of the time the story was written, the police were withholding his name from the public until his next of kin could be located.

According to local reports, he was first discovered in a public restroom by the on duty store attendants. They reported that he was inhaling fumes in a stall to the police. Once the authorities arrived, they took him to the hospital where he was initially seen to be in relatively good health other than some scratches from an unrelated previous incident. However, his condition soon rapidly worsened and he passed away in a matter of hours

Tennessee Man Arrested for Huffing and Driving

A 35 year old man from Rockvale, Tennessee man was taken into custody on Tuesday night at approximately 6:40 PM after allegedly huffing and driving. While responding to a call regarding someone having a seizure behind the wheel, a local officer claims to have witnessed the man spraying canned duster into his nose while pulled over to the side of the road.

Upon confronting him, the officer claims that the man refused to cooperate. After gaining access to the car by breaking through a window, the Tennessee man reportedly put up a brief struggle against the arresting officer. From there he was taken first to a hospital and then to jail. Currently, he is being charged with resisting arrest and driving under the influence. The bond is set at $4,000.

Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputies Report Increased Inhalant Abuse

On October 6^th 2015, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputies reported that they have investigated three separate instances of residents abusing inhalants while driving. The first two instances resulted in the drivers hitting trees. However, the third incident resulted in the driver crashing into a utility pole on Sunday October 4^th.

  The crashes occurred in Jamestown Township, Georgetown Township, and Coopersville respectively. The latest suspect suffered serious injuries, had his car totaled, and has been charged with driving while intoxicated.

Wisconsin Man Sentenced to One Year Probation for Huffing Spray Paint

On October 6, 2015 a 44 year old man in Sheboygan Wisconsin was sentenced to one year probation for two separate incidents. The first was when in mid-July when the man’s brother called the authorities after finding him impaired. Later that day the Sheboygan man admitted to police that he has huffed an entire can of gold spray paint.

The second incident occurred in early-August in which he was found passed out on a railway bridge with a can of spray paint next to him. According to the man’s own admission, he has been addicted to huffing paint since he was 17.

Former Model Attempts to Regain Contact with Child Despite Inhalant Abuse

In the New York metropolitan area, a former professional model is taking her billionaire ex-husband to court in order to regain visitation rights with their daughter. The woman has reportedly been cut off from her since their last court appearance in which the wealthy Long Island trader released a video of his ex-wife inhaling air-blast spray which is commonly used to clean computer keyboards.

In response to her ex-husband’s allegations that his actions have been simply been in the best interests of their daughter, the former model emphasizes that the girl need a mother in her life. Also she claims that her 2013 overdose was driven by stresses caused by her drawn out custody battle.

Michigan Man Crashes into Utility Pole after Huffing

On the night of Sunday October 4, 2015, a man crashed his truck into a utility pole near Coopersville, Michigan. However, the Ottawa County Police Department has stated that the man was not injured from the collision.

According the local reports, the damage was fairly extensive as several power lines were pulled down in the process. Additionally, the department reported that the man in question inhaled canned air duster while driving and subsequently blacked out. He was taken into custody shortly afterwards.

Woman Found Dead in Delaware Motel: Inhalant Abuse-related

A 27 year old woman was found dead on Saturday October 3^rd 2015. The police were alerted of this occurrence by her 31 year old boyfriend who claimed to have found her in a motel in a Murfreesboro, Delaware motel room.

The boyfriend told the authorities that the woman had inhaled duster the night before. However, the exact cause and manner of death has yet to have been reported by the local medical examiner’s office. Currently the Murfreesboro police department is considering the incident to be part of an “unintended death investigation.”

Man Arrested in South Carolina for Inhalant Abuse-related Theft

A 24 year old man in Charleston, South Carolina was arrested for stealing a can of keyboard cleaner from a local store on Saturday September 12^th 2015. He admitted to doing so in order to become intoxicated by inhaling it. Records indicate that the man was found unconscious with the can next to him in close proximity to the store.

Typically this crime would be a misdemeanor in South Carolina. However, since the young man has prior convictions, he will be given a felony charge according to local authorities. 

After Death, Nunavut Chief Corner Warns that Inhalant Abuse can be Fatal

On September 9^th 2015, the Chief Coroner of Nunavut warned listeners about the dangers of huffing. This occurred two days after the death of a local nineteen year old. This young man was pronounced dead at the Pond Inlet Health Centre due to his abuse of inhalants.

In her speech, the coroner described the harm that can come from these actions. Also she called on various organizations to spread awareness about the issue.

Pennsylvania Woman Caught Huffing Under Clothing Rack

According to local police, a woman in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania stole a can of compressed air from a store and huffed it both while hiding underneath a clothing rack and in the parking lot. Reportedly her actions were caught on the store’s surveillance cameras during the September 8^th incident.

She was quickly arrested and was taken to Lancaster County Prison. From there she was charged with retail theft and illegal use of a noxious substances and was held on $10,000 bail.

Florida Man Found Passed Out Behind Wheel after Huffing Compressed Air

On Tuesday September 8^th 2015, a 30 year old man in Boca Raton was arrested and charged with fleeing and eluding and inhaling a harmful chemical. When police found him at approximately 6:30 PM, his car was sitting on a roadway and he was passed out on the steering wheel. However, when the police tapped on the window, the driver briefly regained consciousness and drove off. However, he was soon found at a nearby restaurant where he inhaled more computer cleaner before being arrested.

After arresting the suspect, he was taken to Boca Raton Hospital. After he was given a chance to recover, he was briefly detained at Palm Beach County Jail. When questioned, the suspect claimed to not have any recollection of the previous night’s events.

Oregon Man Abuses Inhalants, Crashes Car into Wetland

A 29 year old man from Myrtle Creek crashed a car in a wetland near a commercial outlet in Roseburg, Oregon while allegedly under the influence of inhalants.  According to police reports, the driver drove his car through a chain link fence and parked on a grassy area nearby. When the police arrived at approximately 12:40 AM on September 6^th 2015, he was reportedly still huffing from one of his several air duster cans.

The man was quickly arrested without incident and his vehicle was removed by a local towing company. He was charged with DUII Inhalants, DWS Violation, Unlawful Possession of Inhalants, and Failure to Return a Suspended License.

Madison Driver Fatally Strikes Pedestrian after Huffing from a Spray Can

According to Madison police, a 36 year old man inhaled fumes from a can of computer cleaner while driving on Saturday September 5^th 2015. This caused him to briefly lose consciousness. This caused him to careen onto the sidewalk and collide into a 51 year old man.

The driver soon drove off but stopped shortly afterwards. Police initially took driver to the hospital where he received treatment for a medical condition unrelated to the crash. Three days later he was taken to the Dane County Jail pending charges.  

Woman Found Unresponsive in Car after Huffing Aerosols

On the night of Tuesday September 1^st, a woman in West Monroe, Louisiana was found unconscious in her car by an Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s deputy. The officer approached the vehicle because it was blocking traffic. However, when he saw that the driver was unconscious and shaking, he forced entry into the car and called emergency responders.

Once the woman, who had an aerosol can in her hand and eleven more in the car, was deemed to be in stable condition by medical professionals, she was arrested and taken to Ouachita Correctional Center. From there she was charged with abusing of toxic vapors and impeding the flow of traffic.

Incidentally, this was not the first time this woman had faced similar charges. A year earlier, she was found abusing inhalants in a car and was in almost equally poor condition.

California Parolee Caught Inhaling Aerosol Cans Found in Dumpster

On the morning of Monday August 31^st, 2015, police found a 30 year old man hiding behind a dumpster and inhaling the contents of several stolen aerosol cans. Upon seeing this, the police claim that the man, who was on parole for a previous burglary case at the time, was a threat to both himself and others.

As a result, the California man was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence and shoplifting. This represents the second time he was brought in for this issue. In 2011, he was arrested for getting high off of paint thinner in Shasta County, California.

Indiana Woman Allegedly Huffs Computer Duster on Back of Motorcycle

On Monday August 31^st, a woman was arrested after inhaling keyboard cleaner while riding on the back of a motorcycle in Hobart, Indiana. Officers first responded to the case after they received reports of a woman lying in the middle of the street. When they found the woman in question, she responded by stating that she was alright and that simply fallen off of the motorcycle. Officers noticed that she had a can of keyboard cleaner in her purse. However, she claimed that she had simply purchased it to help clean a friend’s computer. Despite this story, the officers decided to follow her after she got back on the motorcycle.

During this time they witnessed her huffing from the can and subsequently going limp and nearly falling off again. Allegedly she admitted to one of the officers that she inhaled because she was “having a bad day.” Ultimately she was arrested and charged with inhaling toxic vapors, a misdemeanor, and was transported to Porter County Jail. The driver claimed to have no knowledge of her actions.

Maine Driver Attempts to Evade Police after Inhaling Keyboard Cleaner

A man from Topsham Maine was arrested on the night of Monday August 31st after inhaling keyboard cleaner and attempting to evade police. According to local authorities, after a relatively low-speed car chase due to a prior trespassing issue, the man crashed his SUV into a guardrail. When police approached, he allegedly began huffing in front of them. From there, the officers removed the keys from the ignition and took him into custody.

He was charged with operating under the influence of drugs, driving to endanger, failure to stop for a police officer and civil possession of inhalants.  After his arrest, the man was transported to the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, where he was held on $1,000 cash bail.

Florida Officer Dragged behind Car of Fleeing Suspect: Inhalant Abuse Suspected

A Florida man was arrested on Sunday August 30^th after inhaling compressed air and attempting to flee the scene. Officers in the town of Stuart found the man passed out in behind the wheel in a drive-thru. However, he drove off almost as soon as he woke up.

Unfortunately, while driving off, an officer was caught on the car and dragged along. The suspect in question was taken into custody soon afterwards. The officer who was dragged behind the car was taken to the hospital and is now recovering.
