A 47-year-old Illinois man died from huffing computer duster spray.  The man was arrested for inhaling compressed gas in the parking lot of a Walmart and for driving under the influence. He was taken to the Police Department where he began complaining of shortness of breath. An ambulance was called and the man was taken to the hospital where he later died.

A Wisconsin man is facing charges of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with the death of a 17-year-old.   Police say the man was inhaling computer duster spray minutes before his truck crossed over the median and struck and killed a pedestrian. Smoking devices used for smoking marijuana and a can of computer duster spray were found in the truck.

A 30-year-old Arden man was arrested after being seen taking cans of duster into the bathroom of a local Target store and "huffing" them to get high. According to the Police report, the man was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for treatment of his pain and disorientation. Following treatment, he was charged with petit larceny, possession of stolen property, criminal mischief, inhalation of toxic vapors, and appearing under the influence in public.

Law enforcement arrested a woman in Oregon for driving under the influence of inhalants, following a hit and run. Witnesses reported that the driver appeared to be struggling to remain conscious. She was taken to the hospital for treatment of inhaling compressed air. This is the woman's third DUI this year, and the second time she was reported driving under the influence of inhalants.

On the morning of Thursday October 29^th, several police officers in Warwick, Rhode Island responded to a report of an erratic driver. They arrived at a local gas station where they found a 27 year old woman who seemed confused in a car that had two blown out tires. Furthermore, the claim to have found huffing materials in the vehicle.

Reportedly, the driver put the car in gear after an officer tried to turn off the engine. This caused an officer to briefly get caught on the car. Fortunately he was not injured since he got loose after approximately ten feet. After this incident the police took the woman into custody and where she currently is facing several charges including DUI, reckless driving and possession of toxic substances.

On the morning of October 29^th, a 41 year old woman from Green Bay Wisconsin was sentenced to 18 months in prison for operating a vehicle while under the influence of an inhalant. The court cited the fact that she was convicted of four separate charges of driving under the influence prior to this latest incident for the stiff sentence.

After she is released, she will serve three years of extended supervision. Also she will have her license suspended for three years. Additionally, the Brown County judge ruled that she must have an ignition interlock installed into her car for two years afterwards.

Florida Doctor Crashes Car after Huffing, Knocks out Power at Local Supermarket

On the morning of Tuesday October 27^th, a 61 year old physician in Saint Augustine crashed his car into a power pole. This left a major grocery store in the area without electricity. Police responding to the scene reported that the man in question was huffing computer cleaner.

According to the police report, he was fairly compliant with the arresting officers’ requests. However, he was physically unable to stand in order to carry out the field sobriety tests. However, the doctor was eventually taken to the county jail. From there he was charged with DUI with Property Damage and Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage.

Plano Authorities Suspect a Car fire was Started by Aerosol Abuse

Upon witnessing a car fire in a local parking lot, Plano firefighters believed that the situation warranted an investigation.  According to their reports, the car contained several cans of computer cleaner that were likely used by the driver to become intoxicated. These possess a chemical called difluoroethane which is highly flammable. Therefore, they believe the car ignited when the driver tried to light a cigarette after abusing inhalants.

At the time of the incident, the driver was seen running from the burning car. However, local authorities soon found him. After taking him into custody, they quickly brought him to Parkland Hospital in order to treat his non-life threatening burns.

Minnesota Driver Pleads Guilty in Huffing Related Crash

A 26 year old man from Hastings Minnesota has pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular operation during a court appearance on Monday October 19^th. The charges stem from an incident that occurred on July 26^th in which he collided head on with another car. The other driver was taken to the hospital with back injuries.

Although he denied drinking that day, he admitted to having taken several “hits” from the aerosol cans in the back of his car on his way to work. His current charges count as a gross misdemeanor. Therefore, he will be required to serve 21 days in jail and spend two years on probation. Furthermore, he will have to undergo a chemical evaluation and stay off alcohol and controlled substances.

Washington Woman Hospitalized and Arrested Following Theft of Canned Air

A 31 woman in western Washington State was found passed out in a public bathroom on Saturday October 17th after huffing a significant amount of canned air. Once taken into custody, the police brought her to Providence Centralia Hospital.

Victim of Man who drove Under the Influence of Inhalants Offers Forgiveness

During an October court appearance, a traffic safety flagger publically forgave the 50 year old man who ran his car into her after inhaling nitrous oxide, also known as “whippets.” According to witnesses, the Portland man was weaving around traffic when he hit the woman despite her orange safety vest and sign that said “slow.” The collision left her in critical condition, although she is not beginning to heal.

After the March 25^th incident, the man pled guilty to charges of third-degree assault and driving under the influence of inhalants. He is currently scheduled to face a sentencing hearing on November 2^nd, 2015.

On Saturday October 10^th, a 28 year old man in Ferndale, Michigan was arrested after police found him in a portable toilet with a can of compresses air. They arrived at the scene after witnesses reported a seeing a man enter the restroom and not leaving. Additionally, they claimed to hear the sound of a spray can and subsequently, a thud.

Officers reported that the man called out that he “was sleeping” in an extremely slurred manned after they knocked on the door. Later he was taken into custody and protested that he “only inhaled one can.” After he was cleared medically, he was issued a citation for abuse of inhalants under a local ordinance. Additionally, his parole officer was notified of the incident.

On Friday October 9^th, a 39 year old man from Toms River, New Jersey was observed inhaling the contents of an aerosol can on the grounds of the Ocean County Courthouse. The suspect was first seen by a local sheriff who called for assistance with arresting him at 9:44 A.M. According to police reports, the man was walking strangely and attempted to hide the can of computer cleaner in the sleeve of his shirt.  

After his arrest, the man was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and use or possession with intent to use. Furthermore, the Sheriff's office discovered that he was wanted on two probation warrants for bail violations.

A 34 year old man in Springfield, Florida was arrested on March 14, 2015 for inhaling the contents of a can of computer cleaner in a cemetery. As the police took him into custody, he repeatedly tried to kick and lash out at the officers. These acts of physical aggression continued even after the police used a stun gun on him.

Michigan Man Found Huffing in Car While Waiting for Girlfriend

On October 9^th 2015, a 19 year old man was allegedly found inhaling the contents of an aerosol can. The police report that the man drove with a suspended license to a store and brought a can of air duster. He then drove to a nearby parking lot and proceeded to inhale the contents while waiting for his girlfriend to finish work.

Local shoppers witnessed what the man was doing and reported it to the police. Once they arrived, they called paramedics out of concern for the young man’s medical state. After he was cleared, the alleged perpetrator was taken into custody and charged with prohibited use of a chemical agent and driving without a valid license.

A 25 year old man from Somers, Connecticut was arrested on the night of Thursday October 1^st 2015 and was charged with assaulting a police, interfering with an officer and resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, interfering with an emergency call and third-degree assault. The police originally arrived after receiving two 911 calls from family members who reported that he had started throwing objects and smashed a phone when a relative tried to call 911. When the police attempted to put the young man, in handcuffs, he bit an officer and began spitting. Due to his violent actions, the police responded by using pepper spray. The man was arraigned in Rockville Superior Court on Friday October 2^nd and was held on $50,000 bond. He is due back in court later in the month.

Blacksburg, Virginia Concert to Raise Money for Anti-Huffing Awareness

A concert was held on Sunday September 13^th 2015 at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church in order to raise money for inhalant abuse awareness. This was triggered by the death of a 41-year-old husband and father of two young children from inhalant abuse. The man was found dead clutching a can of computer cleaner. According to the family, he was suffering from PTSD from his most recent combat tour and had a long history of risk taking.

The concert itself was set up in order to raise money. Admission was free, although attendees were highly encouraged to donate to a memorial fund. Even before the event, it had raised over $8,500. The funds are designated for educational programs related to the issue and will be concentrated in Montgomery County Public Schools.

On the morning of Saturday September 12^th 2015, a woman in Jonesboro, Arkansas was found passed out in a store’s bathroom. According to reports, a store associate needed to crawl into the stall to see to the woman’s well-being. Once the full extent of the situation became apparent, the police were called.

Once the 41 year old woman regained consciousness, she allegedly tried to continue huffing air duster. However, she later expressed remorse and said that what she did was “a stupid thing to do.” After being removed from the premises she was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center where she was charged with inhalant abuse.

Pennsylvania Woman Caught Huffing Under Clothing Rack

According to local police, a woman in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania stole a can of compressed air from a store and huffed it both while hiding underneath a clothing rack and in the parking lot. Reportedly her actions were caught on the store’s surveillance cameras during the September 8^th incident.

She was quickly arrested and was taken to Lancaster County Prison. From there she was charged with retail theft and illegal use of a noxious substances and was held on $10,000 bail.
