South Carolina Father Arrested for Inhalant Abuse

On Tuesday November 3, 2015, a couple in Spartanburg County South Carolina was arrested. The police were first concerned about suspected inhalant abuse. This was because one of the two had noticeable signs of this activity including a dazed appearance and paint on his face. However, when they enetered their home, they also became deeply concerned about parental neglect.

According to reports, the house was littered with insects, rats, mold, and dog feces. Furthermore, when the police asked the couple’s child to bring a pair of shoes, she was unable to do so. The original suspect was arrested for being under the influence of the Aromatic Hydrocarbons and the mother was arrested for child neglect. The daughter was taken into emergency protected custody.

Wisconsin Man Sentenced to One Year Probation for Huffing Spray Paint

On October 6, 2015 a 44 year old man in Sheboygan Wisconsin was sentenced to one year probation for two separate incidents. The first was when in mid-July when the man’s brother called the authorities after finding him impaired. Later that day the Sheboygan man admitted to police that he has huffed an entire can of gold spray paint.

The second incident occurred in early-August in which he was found passed out on a railway bridge with a can of spray paint next to him. According to the man’s own admission, he has been addicted to huffing paint since he was 17.

South Carolina Woman Neglects Elderly Mother to Huff Spray Paint

A 58-year-old South Carolina woman is being charged with neglect of a vulnerable adult after her mother wandered from the house while the woman huffed spray paint.  Police were called to the family's home by a neighbor who found the 78-year-old mother in a ditch in his front yard without any clothes on.  The neighbor did not initially get a pulse so he called 911.  The daughter did not come to the door at first, but later answered.  When told that her mother was outside, the woman said "OK" and then closed the door.  She came outside a short while later, but did not appear upset about her mother's condition and she also had a visible discolored ring around her lip.  Police had trouble getting her mother's medical information from the daughter before transporting her to the hospital.

Police say the woman cares for her mother, who is in the advanced stages of dementia.   When police entered the home they could smell a strong odor of paint that was overpowering in the kitchen area.  Police say they saw a can of spray paint on the counter and another in the trash.   The woman struggled to give responses to the police and appeared tired during their conversation.  She was later charged with neglect of a vulnerable adult.

Man Arrested for Huffing Gold Paint in Tennessee

Last week a 21 year old man was charged with public intoxication and unlawful possession of an inhalant. Police responded to a call of a man "yelling at himself" and found the man with gold paint on his face and he "seemed to be intoxicated from huffing the paint." They found the bag with the gold paint he had been using and also discovered he was on probation for "possession of an inhalant."

SWAT Called After Washington Man High on Spray Paint Waves Gun

Police arrested a Washington man who wielded a handgun at officers while he was high on paint fumes.  The man reported feeling sick after huffing spray paint.  When medics and officers arrived the man had his handgun and waved it at police.  Officers called for backup from the SWAT Team.  SWAT team officers entered and took the man into custody.  The man was booked on domestic violence charges from outstanding warrants.

Tennessee Man Arrested for Inhalant Use

A 44-year-old man was arrested in Clarksville, Tennessee after police officers found items used for sniffing inhalants inside his vehicle. He was pulled over by Clarksville Police for a traffic stop, when they noticed spray paint cans, a brown paper bag with similar paint cans inside, and three glass pipes with a burned residue inside of them, all in the rear of his vehicle.

The man was charged with failure to carry/exhibit license, criminal impersonation, inhalants and unlawful drug paraphernalia.

North Dakota Man Arrested for Huffing Paint Outside Church

Police responding to a report of a suspicious man at a local fitness center. When they responded they found a man in the parking lot of the church next door, with gold paint on his clothes and around his mouth. He also had a 24 ounce can of gold paint in his jacket pocket and he admitted to huffing the paint.

He pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor counts of illegally inhaling dangerous vapors to get high and criminal mischief and was sentenced to 30 days in jail and $225 in mandatory fees. The prosecutor noted the man’s five previous huffing cases.

Ohio Woman Arrested for Huffing Spray Paint

Police arrested an Ohio woman for abuse of harmful intoxicants.  The police responded to a report of someone, "huffing paint and causing a disturbance".  Once on the scene, officers said the woman, "had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and was unsteady on her feet."  They also found a trash bag with gold paint in it and a can of gold spray paint inside the woman's jacket pocket. 

West Virginia Man Arrested After Huffing Spray Paint in Apartment

A 52 year old man was arrested after neighbors had complained about the strong paint odor coming from his apartment. He opened the door and police saw that he had “metallic silver paint on his face, hands and clothing.”

South Carolina Passed Out From Inhalants While Car Running

A 30 year old man has been charged with driving under suspension and inhaling aromatics hydrocarbons after being found unconscious in his car this past weekend.

Last Sunday evening a deputy responded to a call for a male passed out in a car when he found a car parked sideways, blocking a street and still running.  A man was slumped over in the driver’s seat with his foot on the brake.  He was “sluggish, had slurred speech, and had silver paint around his mouth.” Inside the car the deputy found a can of silver spray paint and a sock with silver paint on it.

Two Inhalant Cases in One Day in Rapid City, South Dakota

Rapid City Police responded to two separate inhalant related cases yesterday morning.

Police found a 21 year old female passed out in her running car in a hotel parking lot at 2 am.  When the officer reached in to shut off the car the driver came to, restarted the car, shifted into reverse, and backed into the police car. She drove off and a police chase ensued until traffic spikes punctured the car’s tires. The driver abandoned the moving car and it came to a stop after rolling into an apartment building. She again attempted to run but was subdued by a police dog.

Four cans of computer dusting spray were found in her car and she had admitted she had been inhaling the product. She was arrested for “driving under the influence, driving under revocation, aggravated eluding, possession of a revoked driver's license, resisting arrest, hit and run, obstruction and ingesting.”

45 minutes later, police responded to a report of two women huffing at an apartment building. When they arrived they found two women, aged 23 and 54, with their “hands and faces covered with gold spray paint and a plastic bag containing the paint.”

South Carolina Man Arrested Sixth Time for Huffing

A 32 year old Charleston man was arrested last week on charges of huffing spray paint.  Around 1:45 am on a Sunday police heard loud noises and upon investigation in a marshy area by the highway found the man “clutching a 4-inch knife, spinning in circles and talking to himself.”  They then smelled the spray paint and noticed the gold spray paint on the man’s body and clothes along with three paint cans nearby, each with a hole in the side.

The man denies the charges and the police report lists his reason.  “He stated that he sprays the gold paint and places the rag on his mouth. When the devil worshippers come after him and try to orally sexually assault him, the paint gets on their genitals, and he can use that information to prosecute them.” Since 2006 the man has been arrested and convicted on five glue-sniffing charges. For the most recent incident he faces a charge “sniffing aromatic hydrocarbons”
