Found Unresponsive in a Hotel Room in North Dakota

A 25 year old man was arrested for the second time in two weeks after after he was found unresponsive in a hotel room. Officers responded after staff found the man unconscious and slumped against a chair on the floor next to two cans of computer duster. He was taken into custody on charges of inhalation of chemical vapors. Previously, in late August, he was arrested after abusing inhalants in the bathroom of a mall.

Homeless Man Passes out in North Dakota Restroom After Huffing

A 33 year old homeless man locked himself in a Rent-A-Center restroom for several hours and was arrested for huffing computer duster.
Store staff called police after noticing the man had been locked in the room for hours and was unresponsive. Police found him face down on the floor with two cans of computer duster. He was arrested, charged with inhaling vapors-a Class B misdemeanor, taken to the hospital to be treated and then taken to jail. He was ordered to serve 20 days in jail and given one day credit for time served.

North Dakota Man Arrested for Huffing Paint Outside Church

Police responding to a report of a suspicious man at a local
fitness center. When they responded they found a man in the parking lot of the
church next door, with gold paint on his clothes and around his mouth. He also
had a 24 ounce can of gold paint in his jacket pocket and he admitted to
huffing the paint.
He pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor counts of illegally
inhaling dangerous vapors to get high and criminal mischief and was sentenced
to 30 days in jail and $225 in mandatory fees. The prosecutor noted the man’s
five previous huffing cases.

North Dakota Man Passes Out in Car While Huffing

A 39
year old man was arrested for huffing and DUI after he was found passed out in
a car that was parked partially on the street and partially on the grass. The
officer pounded on the window to wake the man up and when he came to he took a
hit from a can of computer duster and passed back out. He awoke the second time, took another hit of
the duster and opened the door.
He was
taken to the hospital, treated and released. He faces charges of “inhaling
intoxicating vapors and actual physical control of a vehicle while under the
influence.”

New inhalant abuse data from North Dakota shows that
inhalants are the third most commonly abused substances by middle school
students in the state. According to findings
of the 201 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 7.4 percent of middle school students and
11.6 percent of high school students in North Dakota report abusing inhalants.
To combat the issue the North Dakota Department of Human Services’ Division of
Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services have created an educational inhalant abuse prevention toolkit for community leaders, parents, school officials and

In court, the judge lectured the two, telling them “you should be charged with stupidity as well. That’s a very dangerous activity and you are lucky you were observed by a police officer.”

Arrested for Huffing: Twice in the Same Day & In the Same Location

A 30 year-old man was arrested for inhalant abuse-twice in the same day and in the same parking lot. He had previously been arrested after driving under the influence of inhalants in August.
A police officer noticed a suspicious car in the mall parking lot and when he approached the car he saw the man put an aerosol can up to his mouth. He was arrested for inhalation of vapors and released after booking.
Around 8 hours later a different officer was driving through the mall parking lot when he noticed the car. Upon investigation he saw that the car was running and the driver was passed out holding an aerosol can in his hand. He was arrested and taken to the detention center where he was held on bond.

His first arrest came after being spotted at 2:30 AM in an area used by dump trucks kneeling in the front seat of his car and not responding. Eight hours after posting bail, he was found passed out in his car in front of a building. Police say the same man was also arrested in late August, after he was driving while huffing and drove into a ditch.

Two Huffing Related Crashes in North Dakota

Earlier this week two people were arrested in separate alleged huffing related incidents.
A 20 year old woman pleaded guilty to “driving under the influence and driving under suspension, both Class B misdemeanors, and inhalation of vapors, an infraction.” She was sentenced to nine days in jail, a year of unsupervised probation and $500 in fines. Police report that she had been inhaling computer dusting spray while driving when her pickup truck “"drove off the road into a ditch, continued traveling in a grassy field up a steep hill and crashed into a garage.”
Three hours later, a 30 year man was also involved in a huffing computer dusting spray while driving related incident. Officers responded to a report of a man passed out while stopped at an intersection but they located the car nearby in a ditch. It had nearly struck pedestrians, gone over a curb, and landed in a ditch. The driver was still behind the wheel and upon noticing the officers he tried to drive away. The judge suspended his sentence and ordered him to pay $600 in fines.

Today police in Fargo responded to the call of a passerby who reported that a car had crossed the median and entered the ditch.
When police arrived they approached the car and found a 24 year old woman with a can of dust remover in her hand.

North Dakota Man Convicted in 12th Huffing Arrest

A 38 year old man who had been “convicted 9 times of inhaling intoxicating vapors since 2006” was arrested again last Saturday. This latest incident marked his third arrest for huffing in the past two months.
Police responded to a call regarding a man who was reportedly having medical issues in his car in a Kmart parking lot. Upon responding they found a man slumped over in the driver’s seat. He then raised a can of computer duster to his nose and began huffing the product. Police are investigating an inhalant related incident that occurred last Wednesday. An individual’s car was allegedly rear-ended and the car immediately sped off after impact. The victim pursued the other car and contacted police.
Officers contacted the vehicle’s registered owner who allowed officers to enter the garage. There they found a 21 year old man slumped over in the driver’s seat. When police approached the man began to huff from a can of computer duster in his hand.

A Good Samaritan took the keys away from an intoxicated driver after noticing the driver seemed "out of it". The driver, a Fargo resident, did not admit huffing but police suspect inhalant abuse contributed to the fender bender. The witness says the 38-year old driver was holding a can of duster upon exiting the vehicle, which had crashed into a parked car.

'Huffing' Teen Hits Power Pole

An 18-year-old Dickinson woman was reportedly ‘huffing’ when she slammed her car into a light pole Tuesday, causing a city-wide power outage. The teen is being charged “with not wearing a seat belt, reckless driving, and the inhalation of vapors and volatile chemicals” in connection to the accident. She told police she had blacked out behind the wheel while ingesting the contents of an unspecified substance.
The teen was the only individual involved in the crash, and is currently receiving medical care at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck- as of Wednesday night. According to police, emergency crews had to “use the Jaws of Life” to remove the teen from her totaled vehicle.
While the impact was not enough to knock the light pole over, it did elicit significant damage, prompting a 30 minute power outage across 5,100 businesses and homes in the area.

A news report out of Bismarck, North Dakota details an unusual car accident- one that has left three local males facing multiple drug charges, including illegal “inhalation of vapors” and drug possession, as well as extensive property damage fines.
Last weekend around midnight a car driven by one of the men along with two passengers veered off the road at a neighborhood intersection; driving over lawns and eventually striking the side of a house. Police reports document that both the driver and his passengers were abusing inhalants at the time of the crash.
No one was seriously injured in the accident. However, the homeowner was shaken and “absolutely horrified” by the damage, recalling how he was awoken by the noise of the crash. The collision damaged the foundation of the house, shattered several windows, and broke pictures hanging on the wall.
