Wisconsin Woman Arrested after Driving Under the Influence of Inhalants

On the morning of October 29^th, a 41 year old woman from Green Bay Wisconsin was sentenced to 18 months in prison for operating a vehicle while under the influence of an inhalant. The court cited the fact that she was convicted of four separate charges of driving under the influence prior to this latest incident for the stiff sentence.

After she is released, she will serve three years of extended supervision. Also she will have her license suspended for three years. Additionally, the Brown County judge ruled that she must have an ignition interlock installed into her car for two years afterwards.

New Jersey Man Arrested after Huffing on Courthouse Grounds

On Friday October 9^th, a 39 year old man from Toms River, New Jersey was observed inhaling the contents of an aerosol can on the grounds of the Ocean County Courthouse. The suspect was first seen by a local sheriff who called for assistance with arresting him at 9:44 A.M. According to police reports, the man was walking strangely and attempted to hide the can of computer cleaner in the sleeve of his shirt.  

After his arrest, the man was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and use or possession with intent to use. Furthermore, the Sheriff's office discovered that he was wanted on two probation warrants for bail violations.

Michigan Man Found Huffing in Car While Waiting for Girlfriend

On October 9^th 2015, a 19 year old man was allegedly found inhaling the contents of an aerosol can. The police report that the man drove with a suspended license to a store and brought a can of air duster. He then drove to a nearby parking lot and proceeded to inhale the contents while waiting for his girlfriend to finish work.

Local shoppers witnessed what the man was doing and reported it to the police. Once they arrived, they called paramedics out of concern for the young man’s medical state. After he was cleared, the alleged perpetrator was taken into custody and charged with prohibited use of a chemical agent and driving without a valid license.

Blacksburg, Virginia Concert to Raise Money for Anti-Huffing Awareness

A concert was held on Sunday September 13^th 2015 at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church in order to raise money for inhalant abuse awareness. This was triggered by the death of a 41-year-old husband and father of two young children from inhalant abuse. The man was found dead clutching a can of computer cleaner. According to the family, he was suffering from PTSD from his most recent combat tour and had a long history of risk taking.

The concert itself was set up in order to raise money. Admission was free, although attendees were highly encouraged to donate to a memorial fund. Even before the event, it had raised over $8,500. The funds are designated for educational programs related to the issue and will be concentrated in Montgomery County Public Schools.

Pennsylvania Woman Caught Huffing Under Clothing Rack

According to local police, a woman in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania stole a can of compressed air from a store and huffed it both while hiding underneath a clothing rack and in the parking lot. Reportedly her actions were caught on the store’s surveillance cameras during the September 8^th incident.

She was quickly arrested and was taken to Lancaster County Prison. From there she was charged with retail theft and illegal use of a noxious substances and was held on $10,000 bail.

Florida Man Found Passed Out Behind Wheel after Huffing Compressed Air

On Tuesday September 8^th 2015, a 30 year old man in Boca Raton was arrested and charged with fleeing and eluding and inhaling a harmful chemical. When police found him at approximately 6:30 PM, his car was sitting on a roadway and he was passed out on the steering wheel. However, when the police tapped on the window, the driver briefly regained consciousness and drove off. However, he was soon found at a nearby restaurant where he inhaled more computer cleaner before being arrested.

After arresting the suspect, he was taken to Boca Raton Hospital. After he was given a chance to recover, he was briefly detained at Palm Beach County Jail. When questioned, the suspect claimed to not have any recollection of the previous night’s events.

Oregon Man Abuses Inhalants, Crashes Car into Wetland

A 29 year old man from Myrtle Creek crashed a car in a wetland near a commercial outlet in Roseburg, Oregon while allegedly under the influence of inhalants.  According to police reports, the driver drove his car through a chain link fence and parked on a grassy area nearby. When the police arrived at approximately 12:40 AM on September 6^th 2015, he was reportedly still huffing from one of his several air duster cans.

The man was quickly arrested without incident and his vehicle was removed by a local towing company. He was charged with DUII Inhalants, DWS Violation, Unlawful Possession of Inhalants, and Failure to Return a Suspended License.

Madison Driver Fatally Strikes Pedestrian after Huffing from a Spray Can

According to Madison police, a 36 year old man inhaled fumes from a can of computer cleaner while driving on Saturday September 5^th 2015. This caused him to briefly lose consciousness. This caused him to careen onto the sidewalk and collide into a 51 year old man.

The driver soon drove off but stopped shortly afterwards. Police initially took driver to the hospital where he received treatment for a medical condition unrelated to the crash. Three days later he was taken to the Dane County Jail pending charges.  

Woman Found Unresponsive in Car after Huffing Aerosols

On the night of Tuesday September 1^st, a woman in West Monroe, Louisiana was found unconscious in her car by an Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s deputy. The officer approached the vehicle because it was blocking traffic. However, when he saw that the driver was unconscious and shaking, he forced entry into the car and called emergency responders.

Once the woman, who had an aerosol can in her hand and eleven more in the car, was deemed to be in stable condition by medical professionals, she was arrested and taken to Ouachita Correctional Center. From there she was charged with abusing of toxic vapors and impeding the flow of traffic.

Incidentally, this was not the first time this woman had faced similar charges. A year earlier, she was found abusing inhalants in a car and was in almost equally poor condition.

California Parolee Caught Inhaling Aerosol Cans Found in Dumpster

On the morning of Monday August 31^st, 2015, police found a 30 year old man hiding behind a dumpster and inhaling the contents of several stolen aerosol cans. Upon seeing this, the police claim that the man, who was on parole for a previous burglary case at the time, was a threat to both himself and others.

As a result, the California man was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence and shoplifting. This represents the second time he was brought in for this issue. In 2011, he was arrested for getting high off of paint thinner in Shasta County, California.

Indiana Woman Allegedly Huffs Computer Duster on Back of Motorcycle

On Monday August 31^st, a woman was arrested after inhaling keyboard cleaner while riding on the back of a motorcycle in Hobart, Indiana. Officers first responded to the case after they received reports of a woman lying in the middle of the street. When they found the woman in question, she responded by stating that she was alright and that simply fallen off of the motorcycle. Officers noticed that she had a can of keyboard cleaner in her purse. However, she claimed that she had simply purchased it to help clean a friend’s computer. Despite this story, the officers decided to follow her after she got back on the motorcycle.

During this time they witnessed her huffing from the can and subsequently going limp and nearly falling off again. Allegedly she admitted to one of the officers that she inhaled because she was “having a bad day.” Ultimately she was arrested and charged with inhaling toxic vapors, a misdemeanor, and was transported to Porter County Jail. The driver claimed to have no knowledge of her actions.

Maine Driver Attempts to Evade Police after Inhaling Keyboard Cleaner

A man from Topsham Maine was arrested on the night of Monday August 31st after inhaling keyboard cleaner and attempting to evade police. According to local authorities, after a relatively low-speed car chase due to a prior trespassing issue, the man crashed his SUV into a guardrail. When police approached, he allegedly began huffing in front of them. From there, the officers removed the keys from the ignition and took him into custody.

He was charged with operating under the influence of drugs, driving to endanger, failure to stop for a police officer and civil possession of inhalants.  After his arrest, the man was transported to the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, where he was held on $1,000 cash bail.

Florida Officer Dragged behind Car of Fleeing Suspect: Inhalant Abuse Suspected

A Florida man was arrested on Sunday August 30^th after inhaling compressed air and attempting to flee the scene. Officers in the town of Stuart found the man passed out in behind the wheel in a drive-thru. However, he drove off almost as soon as he woke up.

Unfortunately, while driving off, an officer was caught on the car and dragged along. The suspect in question was taken into custody soon afterwards. The officer who was dragged behind the car was taken to the hospital and is now recovering.  

Kansas Woman Inhales Computer Cleaner, Gets Instant Frostbite

A 32 year old woman was arrested for abusing toxic vapors after stealing a can of compressed air and inhaling the contents in an aisle of a Johnson City Kansas store.  However, this was after she faced gruesome injuries from her actions on August 29^th.

As a result of her inhalant abuse, the woman received instant frostbite throughout much of her face. However, despite the quite extensive damage, she refused medical care, at least initially, when an ambulance arrived following a 911 call from those who witnessed the incident. The Kansas woman was taken to Johnson County Jail although she was soon released on a $350 bond

Michigan Man Arrested for Huffing in Parking Lot

A 33-year-old Michigan man was arrested for huffing in a parking lot.  The man was on probation for resisting arrest, and a term of the probation included a ban on huffing from aerosol cans.

Police approached the man's truck in a parking lot.  A deputy could see the man in the back seat huffing computer dusters.  At first the man refused to unlock the door, but then changed his mind. Police found several other cans of computer duster spray inside the vehicle.  The man was arrested and lodged in the county jail.

Florida Man Pulls Gun on Deputies While Huffing

A 30 year old man was charged with inhaling/ingesting a harmful chemical after police found him huffing computer dusting spray while trying to load a handgun.

Daytona State College security noticed the man trespassing on campus and huffing from the product. When he saw security he dropped the can and ran into the woods. Police found him huffing from a second can and when they approached him he "pulled a stolen handgun from under his leg and tried to load a magazine into the firearm" but deputies were able to disarm him.

Pennsylvania Woman Found in "Seizure-Like State" after Huffing Behind the Wheel

A Pennsylvania woman was found in a "seizure-like state" behind the wheel of a truck.  State police said they found the woman in the opposing lane of traffic and determined that she had been huffing from a computer cleaning duster can. The woman had been arrested less than 24 hours prior to this incident on a similar charge.  Police also determined that two witnesses had left the scene before troopers could arrive and they were seeking additional information.  The woman was taken to the hospital for a chemical blood test and was later handed over to probation officials.  She is facing charges of driving under the influence. 

Wisconsin Woman Jailed After Repeated Inhalant Abuse

For her repeated incidents of inhalant abuse, a 47 year old woman is scheduled to spend two years in jail and three years on extended supervision upon release from prison. As part of the supervision she is required “not to drink alcohol, enter taverns, or possess aerosol cans.”

The woman was sentenced this week after her probation was revoked due to “huffing keyboard cleaner on four subsequent occasions, grabbing and jerking the steering wheel of a taxi in which she was a passenger, and kicking the rear view and side mirrors of the cab.” 

The article notes her 2009 crashes where in one incident when passers-by gave her a shirt for her head wound she “sprayed dust cleaner on the shirt and huffed the garment.”

Connecticut Man Describes His Inhalant Addiction

A 54 year old man father of three describes how while cleaning his home he tried huffing once from a can of computer dusting spray and was instantly hooked for the next year and a half. 

His addiction to inhalants led to “a series of arrests, car accidents, stints in jail, and being ostracized from his family. It also resulted in him having to appear 17 times in Enfield Superior Court over the last year."

Teens Huffing on School Bus in Tennessee

A school resource officer saw five teens huffing computer dusting spray, or what he termed “brain duster” on the school bus. The teens have been charged with: “intoxication by an inhalant” and they are suspended pending a hearing at the school.

He spoke to another resource officer in another district and found it was happening in that community as well. The article references a survey of high school students in 2011 in Knox County that showed one in ten students “had inhaled some sort of aerosol to get high.”
