 "Police are investigating after a woman crashed her truck into a sign and later admitted she had been 'huffing' prior to the crash.

North Huntingdon Township police were sent to the scene at a Subway restaurant on Route 30 shortly before 4 p.m. According to police, a 23-year-old woman struck the sign outside the restaurant with her pickup truck, and the truck became fully engulfed in flames. The woman and her 5-year-old son were helped out of their vehicle by an eyewitness. The woman sustained minor injuries, and the child was unharmed.

The eyewitness told police that the woman threw something into a nearby dumpster after escaping the flaming truck. In the dumpster, police found a can of compressed gas. The woman later admitted that she had been 'huffing' the computer duster prior to the crash."

South Dakota Woman Gets 5-Year Sentence for Inhalant Arrest

A South Dakota woman involved in a high-speed chase from the police while intoxicated on computer duster was sentenced to five years in jail. After hitting several trees and nearly hitting an oncoming driver at speeds up to 91 mph, the woman was finally apprehended by police, at which point she bit the officers as they handcuffed her. The officers reported she was so intoxicated that she could hardly sit up. Police also reported that they had seen her inhaling from the can of duster prior to the collisions with trees and driving off the road. Given her history of 5 previous DUI offenses and potential to repeat, the judge ruled that she be given five years in jail.

Deputies responded to Kwik Stop No. 8, Cañon, on an intoxicated driver. RP stated there was a man in a red truck drinking out of a bottle and then would pass out. Deputies made contact with the 31-year-old man driving the red Chevy. Driver was place in custody for DUID and it was later determined he was huffing a can of whip it.

On Wednesday November 4, 2015, a man in Garberville, California was arrested after responding to a report that several individuals were huffing an inhalant know as whip-its. When they initially approached the group scattered. However, the authorities later perused one of the individuals by car after he tried to flee the scene.

After taking him into custody, the police found several hundred whip-it containers in the 34 year old man’s car. Furthermore they found dozens of containers of concentrated cannabis. Ultimately he was arrested and brought to Humboldt County Correctional Facility. The suspect was then charged with possession for sales / transportation of concentrated cannabis, driving on a suspended driver’s license, and violation of probation. His bail is set at $25,000.

Rhode Island Driver Abuses Inhalants, Drags Police Office behind Car

On the morning of Thursday October 29^th, several police officers in Warwick, Rhode Island responded to a report of an erratic driver. They arrived at a local gas station where they found a 27 year old woman who seemed confused in a car that had two blown out tires. Furthermore, the claim to have found huffing materials in the vehicle.

Reportedly, the driver put the car in gear after an officer tried to turn off the engine. This caused an officer to briefly get caught on the car. Fortunately he was not injured since he got loose after approximately ten feet. After this incident the police took the woman into custody and where she currently is facing several charges including DUI, reckless driving and possession of toxic substances.

On the morning of Tuesday October 27^th, a 61 year old physician in Saint Augustine crashed his car into a power pole. This left a major grocery store in the area without electricity. Police responding to the scene reported that the man in question was huffing computer cleaner.

According to the police report, he was fairly compliant with the arresting officers’ requests. However, he was physically unable to stand in order to carry out the field sobriety tests. However, the doctor was eventually taken to the county jail. From there he was charged with DUI with Property Damage and Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage.

Plano Authorities Suspect a Car fire was Started by Aerosol Abuse

Upon witnessing a car fire in a local parking lot, Plano firefighters believed that the situation warranted an investigation.  According to their reports, the car contained several cans of computer cleaner that were likely used by the driver to become intoxicated. These possess a chemical called difluoroethane which is highly flammable. Therefore, they believe the car ignited when the driver tried to light a cigarette after abusing inhalants.

At the time of the incident, the driver was seen running from the burning car. However, local authorities soon found him. After taking him into custody, they quickly brought him to Parkland Hospital in order to treat his non-life threatening burns.

Minnesota Driver Pleads Guilty in Huffing Related Crash

A 26 year old man from Hastings Minnesota has pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular operation during a court appearance on Monday October 19^th. The charges stem from an incident that occurred on July 26^th in which he collided head on with another car. The other driver was taken to the hospital with back injuries.

Although he denied drinking that day, he admitted to having taken several “hits” from the aerosol cans in the back of his car on his way to work. His current charges count as a gross misdemeanor. Therefore, he will be required to serve 21 days in jail and spend two years on probation. Furthermore, he will have to undergo a chemical evaluation and stay off alcohol and controlled substances.

On October 6^th 2015, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputies reported that they have investigated three separate instances of residents abusing inhalants while driving. The first two instances resulted in the drivers hitting trees. However, the third incident resulted in the driver crashing into a utility pole on Sunday October 4^th.

  The crashes occurred in Jamestown Township, Georgetown Township, and Coopersville respectively. The latest suspect suffered serious injuries, had his car totaled, and has been charged with driving while intoxicated.

According the local reports, the damage was fairly extensive as several power lines were pulled down in the process. Additionally, the department reported that the man in question inhaled canned air duster while driving and subsequently blacked out. He was taken into custody shortly afterwards.

Florida Man Found Passed Out Behind Wheel after Huffing Compressed Air

On Tuesday September 8^th 2015, a 30 year old man in Boca Raton was arrested and charged with fleeing and eluding and inhaling a harmful chemical. When police found him at approximately 6:30 PM, his car was sitting on a roadway and he was passed out on the steering wheel. However, when the police tapped on the window, the driver briefly regained consciousness and drove off. However, he was soon found at a nearby restaurant where he inhaled more computer cleaner before being arrested.

After arresting the suspect, he was taken to Boca Raton Hospital. After he was given a chance to recover, he was briefly detained at Palm Beach County Jail. When questioned, the suspect claimed to not have any recollection of the previous night’s events.

Oregon Man Abuses Inhalants, Crashes Car into Wetland

A 29 year old man from Myrtle Creek crashed a car in a wetland near a commercial outlet in Roseburg, Oregon while allegedly under the influence of inhalants.  According to police reports, the driver drove his car through a chain link fence and parked on a grassy area nearby. When the police arrived at approximately 12:40 AM on September 6^th 2015, he was reportedly still huffing from one of his several air duster cans.

The man was quickly arrested without incident and his vehicle was removed by a local towing company. He was charged with DUII Inhalants, DWS Violation, Unlawful Possession of Inhalants, and Failure to Return a Suspended License.

Madison Driver Fatally Strikes Pedestrian after Huffing from a Spray Can

According to Madison police, a 36 year old man inhaled fumes from a can of computer cleaner while driving on Saturday September 5^th 2015. This caused him to briefly lose consciousness. This caused him to careen onto the sidewalk and collide into a 51 year old man.

The driver soon drove off but stopped shortly afterwards. Police initially took driver to the hospital where he received treatment for a medical condition unrelated to the crash. Three days later he was taken to the Dane County Jail pending charges.

On the night of Tuesday September 1^st, a woman in West Monroe, Louisiana was found unconscious in her car by an Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s deputy. The officer approached the vehicle because it was blocking traffic. However, when he saw that the driver was unconscious and shaking, he forced entry into the car and called emergency responders.

Once the woman, who had an aerosol can in her hand and eleven more in the car, was deemed to be in stable condition by medical professionals, she was arrested and taken to Ouachita Correctional Center. From there she was charged with abusing of toxic vapors and impeding the flow of traffic.

Incidentally, this was not the first time this woman had faced similar charges. A year earlier, she was found abusing inhalants in a car and was in almost equally poor condition.

Maine Driver Attempts to Evade Police after Inhaling Keyboard Cleaner

A man from Topsham Maine was arrested on the night of Monday August 31st after inhaling keyboard cleaner and attempting to evade police. According to local authorities, after a relatively low-speed car chase due to a prior trespassing issue, the man crashed his SUV into a guardrail. When police approached, he allegedly began huffing in front of them. From there, the officers removed the keys from the ignition and took him into custody.

He was charged with operating under the influence of drugs, driving to endanger, failure to stop for a police officer and civil possession of inhalants.  After his arrest, the man was transported to the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, where he was held on $1,000 cash bail.

Florida Officer Dragged behind Car of Fleeing Suspect: Inhalant Abuse Suspected

A Florida man was arrested on Sunday August 30^th after inhaling compressed air and attempting to flee the scene. Officers in the town of Stuart found the man passed out in behind the wheel in a drive-thru. However, he drove off almost as soon as he woke up.

Unfortunately, while driving off, an officer was caught on the car and dragged along. The suspect in question was taken into custody soon afterwards. The officer who was dragged behind the car was taken to the hospital and is now recovering.  

Inhalant Abuse on the Increase in Wisconsin

After virtually disappearing for 10 years, inhalant abuse is on the increase in the village of Mukonago. Since March the community has seen three incidents of people huffing while driving. Two of the incidents resulted in a crash. In December 2013 the state included inhaled intoxicants in the definition of driving under the influence, making it easier for police to enforce laws against it.

California Driver in Deadly Crash Was Huffing

A 37-year-old California woman was charged with second-degree murder and vehicle manslaughter while under the influence of drugs after a deadly crash last December.  The woman was allegedly high on nitrous oxide when she slammed her car into a SUV, killing the driver, a 68-year-old retired teacher.

The driver appeared in court this week.  Three California Highway Patrol officers and a sergeant testified regarding the December crash and a prior uncharged incident in October.  Huffing- most likely through a whipped cream dispenser- was reportedly a factor in both incidents.  

The woman remains in custody and faces 15 years to life in prison for the murder and vehicle manslaughter charges while under the influence if found guilty.

Huffing Related Accident Leads to Charges for Ohio Man

A 28 year-old, Chillicothe, Ohio man is being charged after he crashed his car into a tree.  A nearby homeowner heard the sounds of the accident and ran to the car to find the driver leaned over into the passenger seat. A responding EMT told police that he saw the driver inhaling from a duster can and another can was found inside the car.  The driver admitted to inhaling the compressed air in the parking lot of a nearby store.  The man was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, failure to control, as well as first-degree misdemeanor charges of abusing harmful intoxicants and using weapons while intoxicated.

Indiana Man Arrested For Huffing Computer Dusting Spray

Police found a 36-year-old man slumped over a vehicle steering wheel last week in the parking lot of an Indiana Wal-Mart. Though the man was incoherent when he was found, police determined that he had been huffing computer duster spray and he was subsequently arrested. He was charged with public intoxication and inhaling toxic fumes.
