Woman Dies from Suspected Aerosol Overdose

A 25-year-old woman was found dead. An aerosol overdose is believed to be the cause of death. The woman was surrounded by aerosol cans--50 to 60 cans were scattered throughout the house. The death has been declared accidental.

Man Faces Trial for Huffing and Driving

In Michigan a man faces trial for huffing and causing a fatal car accident. Police found the man with the inhalant, diflouroethane present in his system. The accident happened when the suspect's vehicle crossed over multiple lanes, crashing into a truck occupied by a man and his wife. The man passed away 3 days later. The 37-year-old has been charged with driving under the influence causing a death, a charge punishable with up to 15 years in prison.

A Teen Boy Who Was Huffing Dies After Fall from a Building

A 13-year-old boy in Singapore fell from the 10th floor of a building after inhaling butane, found in gas canisters and lighters. They boy was pronounced dead after he was found on the second floor ledge. The teen had been sitting on the 10th floor ledge dangling his feet over when his hand slipped and he fell from his perch. The court ruled the case as a tragic misadventure.

Ohio Man Causes Fatal Wreck While High on Inhalants

A Westerville, Ohio man is given 7 years in prison after causing a fatal wreck while being under the influence of an inhalant. The man admitted to aggravated vehicular homicide and vehicular assault after huffing from a can of air duster and killing a veteran in a head on collision. In addition to his sentence, his license has been suspended for 25 years and he has been ordered to pay $33,837 dollars to the late veteran's wife, who was in the vehicle as well.

After being picked up for a parole violation, the 39-year-old woman got sick in her probation officer's car and was then transported to the hospital where she went into cardiac arrest. In New Orleans a 30-year-old woman was found dead in her car in a parking garage at the Clearview Mall after huffing a can of duster. The woman had previously been escorted by mall security a week earlier for huffing a household cleaner.

Maine Fatal Fire Likely Caused By Inhalants
The Maine State Fire Marshal's Office revealed that the car fire that proved fatal to a 34-year-old man was likely caused when fumes from an aerosol can were sparked by a cigarette. The man suffered severe facial and manual burns, but managed to walk to neighbor's house to call for help. From there, he was taken to Maine General Medical Center and then to Maine Medical Center, where he died.
Investigators said that the man was "huffing" from an aerosol can, and found several empty aerosol cans inside the car. They also state that the man was a smoker, and the two factors combined to cause the fatal fire.

Fred Leonhardt, a 65-year old lobbyist, attorney and political fundraiser, passed away in his home from a reported heart attack in October. Autopsy, however, discovered that a heart condition contributed to his death, which led to a final event of cardiac arrhythmia. Ethyl chloride, a compound found in cleaning solvents, was a factor that contributed to the fatal arrhythmia. Police recovered five aerosol bottles of a cleaning solvent and one bottle of nail polish remover, another potentially harmful intoxicant, at the scene. The autopsy also discovered substances in his blood consistent with the chemicals found in the aerosol cleaning solvent, leading to his death being ruled as an accident related to inhalant abuse.

Actress, Skye McCole Bartusiak, who played Mel Gibson's daughter in "The Patriot" passed away in July 2014. Tests revealed today show that the 21-year-old actress had muscle relaxers, painkillers, and a chemical refrigerant difluoroethane in her system at the time of death. "Difluoroethane is a colorless gas used as a refrigerant, something huffed to get high." Her death has been ruled an accidental overdose.

Guilty ruling upheld in huffing crash

A 19-year-old
woman from Illinois who was found guilty of aggravated DUI for a crash that
killed a 5-year-old girl in 2012 will not have the ruling reversed. The woman
was inhaling keyboard duster at the wheel until she achieved the result of
unconsciousness or semi-consciousness. Because she understood her actions based
on previous experience, the judge will not reverse the ruling. The woman could receive
up to 14 years in prison when she is sentences for aggravated DUI and reckless homicide.

Kansas Man Dead After Huffing Duster in Motel Room

Last Thursday a 40 year old man was found unconscious in a motel room after he had been huffing computer dusting spray. Staff at the motel had requested police check on the man. He was unconscious when police found him but the report notes that his condition “quickly deteriorated” and he died at the hospital. It is suspected he had been huffing from “several” cans of computer dusters and the case is being investigated as an “accidental death/ overdose.”
