Psychiatrist Drives Under the Influence of Inhalants

A Wyoming psychiatrist was charged with driving under the influence for a second time in two months for huffing duster. During a preliminary hearing, charges of aggravated assault and misdemeanor DUI were waived. After inhaling, the man passed out while driving and crashed his vehicle into another car, injuring the other driver. The doctor specializes in treating addiction, but had his medical license suspended for struggling with addiction himself.

Driver Who Caused Fatal Crash Sentenced to 11 Years

A driver was inhaling keyboard cleaner when he rear ended another vehicle, fatally inuring a 9-year-old girl. He was convicted of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and received a DUI. Five canisters of the cleaner were found in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Older Man Arrested for Huffing

A 62-year-old man fell unconscious after huffing computer duster on a turnpike. Police found him with plastic bags containing two cans of computer duster. He is charged inhaling/possession of gas, glue, or aerosol, public intoxication, criminal trespassing, driving under the influence and reckless driving.

Man Breaks Probation for Abusing Inhalants

A call was made to Norwalk Police concerning a man acting strangely. Officers found him passed out with computer duster. When he awoke, he immediately inhaled more duster. Police arrested him for violating probation and abusing a harmful inhalant with a suspended license.

Woman Back Her Car into Another Vehicle After Huffing

A shopper returned to his car to find that someone had backed into it and was still idling. The woman was unconscious. When police arrived, they found the aerosol can cleaner that she had been inhaling to get high. She was medically evaluated and ticketed.

Florida Man Arrested for Huffing

A 31-year-old man faces charges of inhaling harmful chemicals after police found him huffing paint thinner near a drug store. This is the fourth time he's been caught this year, and at least the 18th time since 2005. After he was released from jail police later found him hunched over, huffing. The man even poured paint thinner on his shirt and tried huffing it in front of the police, attempting to look normal. The man has been convicted in every one of his cases but has never served more than 20 days in jail.

Texas Woman Accused of Huffing, Wrecking Car, and Killing Two

A 21-year old woman from Texas was charged last week with two counts of manslaughter in the deaths of a 38-year old woman and her 2 year old daughter.   The woman is suspected of huffing compressed air while driving, blacking out, and causing a head-on collision on December 16, 2012.

The woman crossed the 15-foot median and collided with a minivan that held a woman and her two daughters (one daughter survived the accident).   Both vehicles landed on their sides and had extensive damage.

"The woman told investigators at the scene that she had just come the Wal-Mart less than two miles away and blacked out while driving, according to the affidavit that accompanied her arrest warrant." Investigators found that she had purchased industrial strength compressed air from the Wal-Mart.  "According to the affidavit, the compressed air contains a chemical called difluoroethane R-152a that can give a 'quick high' when inhaled. Side effects include nausea, headache, confusion and loss of consciousness, according to the affidavit." 

Manslaughter is a second-degree felony. If convicted, the woman could face two to 20 years in prison.

Mendham woman accused of 'huffing' while working as home health aide - Washington

A 35-year-old woman who is an in-home health aide was caught huffing an aerosol can while working. Police reported she was in no condition to communicate upon their arrival. She was arrested and was later released with a pending mandatory court appearance.

Woman Resists Arrest after Huffing

A 24-year-old Arizona woman was arrested after she passed out in her car after huffing.

Police found the woman with her car still running and an aerosol can in her lap. An officer turned off the car and had some difficulty waking the young woman. When she finally came to, the young woman tried to inhale from the aerosol can, but the officer confiscated it. Police also found a pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine in the woman’s purse.

According to a passenger who was in the car, the young woman had been huffing for several miles despite being asked to stop. She finally blew out her tire after running into a curb.

Police arrested the woman and placed her in the back of a patrol car. According to the police report, the young woman “became enraged and tried to kick out the rear passenger door window.” The woman remained uncooperative when she arrived at the jail and was placed in an isolation cell.

The woman’s charges include driving with a suspended license, toxic vapors, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

45-Year-Old Arrested for Huffing in Massachusetts

A 45-year-old Massachusetts man was arrested for huffing while driving.

Police officers say that the man had stopped his car. When they looked inside to check in on him, officers witnessed the man inhaling computer duster and then passing out. The man was arrested for inhaling a toxic substance and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs.

Man Gives Himself Frostbite From Inhaling Computer Duster

Police were notified of a man inhaling chemicals from a can outside of a church. The suspect was found lying near the side of the building reportedly holding a can of computer duster upside down with his mouth around the nozzle. The can was empty and frozen around the outside. The man continued to reach for other cans even while being questioned.

While in the hospital the man admitted to being a heroin user and was found to have frostbite on his right hand and right cheek. Apparently, the can he was inhaling from froze against his skin. He was arrested on charges of inhaling toxic fumes.

Two Women In Critical Condition After Inhalant-Related Crash

A 17-year-old girl struck her car into two pedestrians after inhaling dust remover while driving. After losing consciousness, the driver hit the first victim while she was crossing the street. The 45-year-old victim is now in a coma. The car traveled about 50 more feet before hitting a 22-year-old woman getting out of her car. The second victim suffered a broken leg and is awaiting critical brain surgery. The driver is facing a long list of serious charges, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (motor vehicle), causing serious bodily injury (2 counts), negligent operation of a motor vehicle, impeded operation, failure to slow for a pedestrian, speeding and a marked-lanes violation.

Man Crashes-Thru Restaurant Drive-Thru

A 23-year-old man crashed his car through a line of windows at a restaurant, continuing some 60 feet until it hit an ice machine. The crash significantly damaged 12 booths, the ceiling, and destroyed tiling and carpet. No one was present during the crash.

When officers arrived at 11:15 PM in response to the alarm, they found the car sitting inside with keys still in the ignition but no driver present. The man turned himself in two hours later and admitted to inhaling computer duster in his car prior to the crash. The man alleges that he blacked out and, “woke up in the middle of the restaurant and heard an alarm going off loudly." He was charged with reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

"It's unreal — he came all the way through, almost to the kitchen," said the manager. "He came in here probably with his foot all the way to the floor."

Woman Huffing And Driving, Nearly Drives Into Bank

A 54-year-old woman is being charged for huffing on four different occasions in the last month. On Sept. 10th, the woman drove into a stranger’s driveway, inhaled aerosol duster, then drove to her own residence where she continued inhaling until she was startled by police. There were multiple cans of duster found in the car. On Sept. 11th, police were called to the woman’s house when neighbors noticed her sitting in her car inhaling aerosol duster.

On Sept. 12th, a bank employee spotted the woman parked in the bank parking lot, slumped over the steering wheel. As employees went to see if she needed assistance, the car began to roll forward towards the front entrance of the building until one employee was able to reach in and shut the car off, halting it on the sidewalk. On Sept. 27th, police were called to the woman’s house when neighbors again spotted her inhaling duster in her car then passing out twice.

The woman has been charged with four counts of intentionally abusing a hazardous substance and one count of bail jumping. If convicted, she faces up to 45 months in prison and $50,000 in fines.

Woman Caught Huffing In Walmart Parking Lot

Police arrived on the scene at a Walmart parking lot where a 38-year-old woman was spotted inhaling computer duster in her car. She was issued a non-traffic citation, released with a notice to appear in court, and transported to an area hospital.

Woman Violates Parole After Causing Car Crash

A crash investigation revealed a 42-year-old woman had been inhaling dust cleaner.

The woman crashed on private property and then fled the scene.

The police suspected the woman had been the suspect in the crash. When police arrived at her home, she was found huffing dust cleaner.

The woman has been on parole prior to the arrest.

Huffing Crash Leaves Man in Wheelchair

A 25-year-old Rapid City man, has pleaded guilty to vehicular battery in a crash that occured on May 7.

Inhaling dust cleaner led him to black out while driving. As a result, three vehicles were involved in the accident including a 4-year-old child and a motorcycle driver. The 4-year-old's father was the only driver involved critically injured.

The 4-year-old's father, now in a wheel chair, is slowly regaining some movement and speech.

"He still has a long way to go," said Pennington County Deputy State's Attorney.


The man will be sentenced Dec. 3, facing up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Lee County to Ban Huffing

Leaders in Lee County, Georgia have recognized the dangers of huffing and want to create legislation to prevent it.

The ordinance lists 30 products that once enacted, will be illegal to inhale. These substances will be added to the glue ordinance already in existence.

Those that are caught violating the city ordinance will be subject to 60 days in jail as well as $1000 in fines.

Commissioners will make their final vote next week on the status of the ordinance.

Open door leads OPD to suspected nitrous users

On February 8 Owensboro Police officers went to investigate an open door at a local business. When they entered the building, they encountered two individuals who had tampered with two nitrous tanks.

Officers said they also found two balloons which they believe were being used to inhale the nitrou

The individuals were arrested at the scene.

Woman dies of Huffing

A 53 year old woman was found dead alongside a road near Fort Washakie School on the Wind and River Reservation in Riverton. The cause of death was cardiac arrhythmia caused by huffing spray paint.
