Man Goes to Trial for Deadly Huffing Related Crash

A Wisconsin man is set to go to trial for vehicular homicide. The man admitted to huffing duster before losing consciousness and killing a pedestrian in 2015. His lawyer claims the accident was caused by the driver removing a hand brace, which distracted him. His lawyer also states that the prosecutor must prove that he was intoxicated. He fled the scene after hitting the pedestrian. Police later found a can of air duster in his vehicle. The man reportedly told seven people that he believed huffing duster led to the crash. At the hospital, he tested positive for difluoroethane, the active ingredient in duster, but later tested negative upon retesting. His lawyer stated that her client huffed duster to ease pain from an existing injury.

A Vermont man was charged with gross negligent operation for crashing into three pedestrians. One died from his injuries. The man initially told police that the accident was caused by a stuck floor mat. Authorities later stated that the crash was due to huffing. 

Man Causes Power Outage by Crashing Car After Huffing

Police have stated that a man was huffing inhalants before crashing his vehicle into a utility pole causing a power outage in the neighborhood. Police seized multiple aerosol cans for their investigation. He was charged with operating while intoxicated (OWI) and failure to maintain control of the vehicle. This is his second OWI.

Man Huffs and Passes Out While Driving

Police reported that a man was drunk and high from huffing computer duster and crashed twice into guardrails. Police believe the man was unconscious while operating the vehicle, and was found passed out with alcohol and ten canisters of duster in his car. He was taken to a medical center after being arrested.

An Oklahoma man was arrested after crashing his car and nearly running over a firefighter.

The man hopped a curb where he then crashed into a fence.  "Witnesses said the driver looked like he was having a seizure and was slumped over the wheel."  Firefighters found the man huffing from a compressed air can.  After seeing police, the man threw his car into reverse and nearly hit a firefighter.  The man was stopped by a police officer who knocked in the car's passenger side window and removed the keys from the ignition.  The man was taken to the hospital as a precaution before being transferred to the local jail.

Utah Man Causes 4-Car Accident While Huffing and Driving

A 37-year-old Utah man is believed to have been huffing and driving before causing a four-car accident.   The man was heading northbound when he rear-ended the first car, also heading North.  The man then veered into the southbound lanes hitting another car almost head on before spinning and hitting the third car.  Two children, ages 9 and 10, were in the 1st car and hospitalized with serious injuries.  A 30-year-old woman had to be extricated from the 2nd car and was also hospitalized with serious injuries.  It's unclear how many people were in the third car, but no one was taken to the hospital.

Police believe the man was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time, and that he was actively using the inhalant while driving.

California Woman Hit Light Pole After Huffing and Driving

A  19-year-old California woman crashed her car into a light pole after huffing.  The woman admitted to police that she had been inhaling some kind of substance before the crash, where she lost control of her car, went off the road, and hit a light pole.

The woman was hospitalized with several serious injuries.

Oregon Man Killed in Huffing Related Crash

A 30-year-old Oregon man was killed after huffing and crashing his car into several trees in a Portland area park.

Investigators say the man was driving at a high rate of speed when he failed to follow the road to the right and drove through the park.  His car hit several trees before coming to a stop.  Police say there was evidence found that shows the man had been huffing inhalants prior to the crash.  Additional drug paraphernalia was also discovered.  A dog in the car was also killed in the crash.

Fatal New Jersey Crash Linked to Inhalant Abuse

A 48-year-old New Jersey man who was charged with running his pickup truck through a farmers market and dragging a woman to her death in August is now facing additional charges of driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

Police received the results of toxicology tests from the state police laboratory.  The man has been held on a $200,000 bail since the day of the accident, August 10th.  It was on this day that his truck crashed through a police barricade set up on the street of the market.  His truck slammed through at least three stalls belonging to six vendors, all who were just starting to pack up their merchandise after the market closed.  His truck also dragged a 58-year-old woman to her death.

Wyoming Crash That Killed 2 Linked to Inhalant Abuse

Police in Wyoming found evidence of drug and inhalant use in a car that had crashed into the Wyoming Medical Center last month.  During the accident two passengers, both 27 years of age, were killed and the driver, 16 or 17 years-old,  was injured.

A search of the car found a brass pipe that contained residue that smelled like marijuana and also a can of computer duster was found on the driver's floorboard.

A 19-year-old, Pennsylvania man is facing a reckless endangerment charge after huffing while driving and crashing into a tree.  Police say the man was huffing before losing control of his car and running into a tree.  Both the man and his passenger has to be treated for injuries.  The man is facing a reckless endangerment charge.

Michigan Man Arrested After Huffing and Crashing into Police Car

A 34-year-old Michigan man was arrested after crashing his car into a police car while huffing dusters. 

Police responded to a report of a man huffing from an computer duster can in the parking lot of a local grocery store.  An officer located the man's car after a caller told police the man had left the grocery parking lot. The police officer saw the man in the driver's seat huffing from the can.  "The man then slumped over the wheel inside his locked car and didn't respond to the officer."  

The officer broke a rear window, but the suspect woke up and backed his car up into the front of the police car.  The man then put the car in drive and tried to flee the area.  The police officer was able to break the driver's side window and turn off the man's car.  Police found multiple empty computer duster cans.  The man was arrest on felonious assault and malicious destruction of police property. 

Pennsylvania Mom Huffs and Crashes Car with Children in Backseat

A 26 year old woman was arrested last week after an inhalant abuse related crash.  When police arrived on the scene she was under the influence of computer dusting spray and was still trying to huff from the can of duster as she exited the car.

Her 7 and 8 year old children were in the car at the time and were taken to the medical center for evaluation. Police also note that she was involved in a similar incident the previous week.

South Dakota: Huffing Behind the Wheel Causes Crash Into Telephone Pole

A 31 year old man was arrested for DUI, ingesting and hit and run after an inhalant related accident. After huffing behind the wheel he lost control of the car and hit a telephone pole.  Both occupants had to be extracted from the vehicle.

Vermont Woman Charged with Huffing and Driving

A 19-year-old Vermont woman was arraigned on misdemeanor charges of negligent driving and driving under the influence of drugs.  The charges come after two separate occasions where the woman was huffing and driving.

In the first incident, a police office responded to a car accident.  Police believe the woman crashed into a parked car after huffing computer duster spray.  During the second incident, police witnessed the woman huffing in her car.  Although she did not display enough signs to be charged with driving under influence during the second incident she was charged with negligent driving.

Michigan Mom Crashes Car Into Church and Injures Her Three Children

A 25 year old woman was sentenced after an inhalant abuse related arrest last September.  The woman’s three children were injured when she crashed her car into the steps of a church.  

She claimed she did not abuse computer duster behind the wheel, instead saying “the car was misaligned and that she had only smoked marijuana that day.” She admitted she had used canned whipped cream and K-2 synthetic marijuana to get high in the past but that the can of duster found in her car was left by someone else. She also admitted she introduced that person to huffing. 

Her mother, who now has custody of the three children, noted the children couldn’t wake their mother while she was driving.” One of the children suffered a head wound and now has a permanent scar across her forehead. The other suffered minor injuries and the oldest two are now in counseling.

Link pleaded guilty to "driving on a suspended license causing serious injury, a five-year offense, in return for dismissal of driving while intoxicated charges."

Multiple Crashes Caused by Driver Huffing Behind the Wheel in New York

A 39 year old man was arrested after an inhalant abuse related crash.  He “lost control of the vehicle, then accelerated and crashed into a vehicle that was parked in a driveway and nearly struck a man who was shoveling near the vehicle.”

He then continued to accelerate and crashed into an apartment building, causing major damage before “continuing out of control across the roadway, nearly colliding with another building before coming to a rest.”  The tenants in the apartment building were “trapped inside their apartment for a short while until they could be rescued through a sealed doorway to another adjoining apartment."

When a deputy from the Sheriff’s office responded he found the man huffing from a can of computer duster.  The man responded he was nervous after the crash so he started huffing in order to deal with the stress. He was arrested and taken to a mental health center for evaluation.

Washington Woman Crashes Into Air Force Base After Huffing

A 22 year old woman was charged with “D.U.I. and Reckless Endangerment of a Child” after she lost control of her car and crashed into the fence at Fairchild Air Force Base.  State troopers report the woman had been huffing keyboard cleaner before driving.

Her 14 year old brother had been in the car at the time of the crash. The car was “traveling over 100 miles per hour and he actually had to unbuckle and take control of the car to get it stopped.”

Oregon Man Huffs Behind the Wheel and Crashes Car Into Two Young Girls

A 19 year old man has been arrested for an inhalant abuse related crash back in August.  Investigators determined he had been huffing behind the wheel before crashing his car into two middle school girls who were walking along a sidewalk.  He turned himself in and now faces charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving, and multiple assault charges.
