Indiana Man Killed from Driving and Huffing

Howard County, IN - In early May, a 27-year-old man was killed after driving into oncoming traffic and hitting a semi before being ejected from the car. Officers found a can of computer duster in the victims car but the recent coroner's report determined that there was 1,1-Difluoroethane, a chemical found in most computer cleaners, in his system.

A 34-year-old man died after huffing. Police and paramedics arrived at his home early that morning. Police saw him huffing from an aerosol can, the man became combative when police took the can away. Two tasers were reportedly required to subdue and handcuff him. He was taken by police to the emergency room but was pronounced dead shortly after. An autopsy report will be available within a few weeks. The man had a long history of drug abuse.

An Indiana woman has been accused of huffing prior to crashing her SUV over the course of a day. Police have charged her with impaired driving and inhaling toxic vapors. In addition, she was charged with driving without a license and forging her registration. She had huffed computer duster.

Indiana police found a man passed out in his car in a shopping center parking lot after inhaling computer duster. Eleven cans were found in his car. The man was arrested.

Police in Evansville, Indiana responded to a call made by a 30-year-old man's grandmother who said he tried to hit her while huffing. When police got there they found six empty cans of computer duster. The man even huffed from a duster can while police were there. He has been charged with intimidation and inhaling toxic vapors.

In Bedford, Indiana police have found a 38-year-old man passed out in his truck with a can of air duster. The man was arrested on charges of inhaling a toxic vapor. Police knocked on the window of the driver's truck and were able to get to him from the passenger's side. They found eight more cans of duster in the floor board.

An Indiana teen was found by police following a report of concern from his mother. Police say they found the empty can of duster in the park and located the teen in front of a home on Briarcliff Parkway.  The 18-year-old was charged with Inhaling Toxic Vapors.

An 18 year old man in New Palatine Indiana has been charged with homicide after running into and killing a 22 year old cyclist. This incident occurred in August and resulted in the offender being taken back to prison. He had out on bond prior to his trial for inhalant abuse charges. However, his freedom was revoked after driving into the cyclist with a blood-alcohol level of .28.

After the crash, which occurred on the alleged perpetrators 18^th birthday, the court ruled that he would be treated as an adult by the court. The driver currently faces six felony charges and one Class 

C misdemeanor related to the accident. His trial date is set to occur on January 12^th.

Indiana Woman Allegedly Huffs Computer Duster on Back of Motorcycle

On Monday August 31^st, a woman was arrested after inhaling keyboard cleaner while riding on the back of a motorcycle in Hobart, Indiana. Officers first responded to the case after they received reports of a woman lying in the middle of the street. When they found the woman in question, she responded by stating that she was alright and that simply fallen off of the motorcycle. Officers noticed that she had a can of keyboard cleaner in her purse. However, she claimed that she had simply purchased it to help clean a friend’s computer. Despite this story, the officers decided to follow her after she got back on the motorcycle.

During this time they witnessed her huffing from the can and subsequently going limp and nearly falling off again. Allegedly she admitted to one of the officers that she inhaled because she was “having a bad day.” Ultimately she was arrested and charged with inhaling toxic vapors, a misdemeanor, and was transported to Porter County Jail. The driver claimed to have no knowledge of her actions.

A 27 year old mother is charged with neglect of a dependent after she had been abusing inhalants, putting her 4 year old daughter in danger. In June she blacked out after huffing a computer duster and while she was passed out, her daughter started playing in traffic. Police showed up after several motorists almost hit the child.  The mother told police she had wrecked her car after huffing so she walked to the store to buy a can of computer duster with the last of her money. On the way home she stopped under a tree and begin inhaling. The investigation last throughout the summer and she was arrested last Monday. 

Pregnant Indiana Mom Arrested After Huffing

When the police arrived at the 22 year old female's door last week they thought she was suffering from a seizure.  The woman, who is six months pregnant, awoke from the officer's knocking on the front door, screamed and immediately began huffing a duster. Police broke down the front door and removed the can from the woman's hand.

Officers were there to serve her a warrant for an inhalant abuse incident from July 9. She told police she was addicted to huffing, was transported to a medical center for evaluation and then to jail.  The baby's father told police he had called them previously hoping she would be arrested because he had found her unconscious several times before.

A 50 year old woman was arrested after Wal-Mart surveillance video caught her huffing computer duster and stealing cosmetics from the store.  Police noticed her speech was slurred from inhaling the product and she was arrested and charged with theft and inhaling a toxic vapor.

An Evansville, Indiana man was arrested recently for huffing, marking his ninth charge with this same crime. Though he tried to run, officers pursued him and he was quickly caught. The man was taken into custody and brought to the Vanderburgh County Jail.

A 26-year-old, Bloomington, Indiana man was arrested after police were called to the parking lot of a Kmart.

According to police the man had purchased cans of duster and was huffing them in his car.  A 14-year-old boy was also in the car, but police say he did not appear to be intoxicated.  The man was arrested on preliminary charges of inhaling toxic vapors.

Illinois Woman Arrested After Passing Out While Driving

A 36 year old Illinois woman was arrested on suspicion of inhaling toxic vapors after police found her semi-conscious in her car with a can of computer duster in her hand.

Officers noticed the car cross the centerline and stop on the opposite side of the road. The driver told them she had purchased the product at Walmart and “had been huffing it” as she drove home. She refused treatment and was transported to jail.

Police found a 36-year-old man slumped over a vehicle steering wheel last week in the parking lot of an Indiana Wal-Mart. Though the man was incoherent when he was found, police determined that he had been huffing computer duster spray and he was subsequently arrested. He was charged with public intoxication and inhaling toxic fumes. 

Huffing Suspected in Crash that Kills Two in Indiana

Huffing is expected as a cause of a crash that caused the loss of two lives this past Saturday morning. An 18 year old male driver crossed the center-line of a highway directly into the path of a 49 year old man. Debris from the crash flew back and hit a car driven by a 76 year old man.  

Both the 18 year old and 49 year old individuals had to be extricated from their vehicles and both men died at the hospital.   The 19 year old and 40 year old passengers in the cars were taken to the hospital and treated for head, facial, and abdominal trauma.

Indiana Shop Selling Whip Its

A WDRB reporter noticed a sign advertising “whip its” for sale and went to investigate.  The inhalant was being sold for $40 and the store owner said he was selling it legally. A loophole allowing that is the fact the balloons were on the outside of the box and they had spelled it wrong on their sign.

An Interventions Coordinator at the local drug & alcohol education center remarked that when he had “kids in a program or adults in a program that have experimented with inhalants in the past, a lot of times they’re a bit slower because they’ve severely damaged parts of their brain.”

Two Men Arrested After Huffing in Indiana WalMart

Employees at a local Wal-Mart noticed two men acting suspiciously and recognized one as a person who had recently huffed a can of cleaning solution in the store.  Using store security footage they were able to locate the men and both were charged.
