Huffing Behind the Wheel Leads to Accident in NY

A 22 year old woman was involved in a suspected inhalant abuse related crash yesterday. She was driving recklessly when her passenger grabbed the wheel. She also grabbed the wheel, lost control of the car and the car ended up in a nearby field. An 18 year-old passenger in the backseat suffered a minor facial abrasion and was taken to the hospital.

The driver was charged with “third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, second-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving and petit larceny”

Arkansas Man Huffed Eight Cans of Whipped Cream at Store

Yesterday’s police blotter includes an inhalant related incident. “Officers detained a man Wednesday after he was seen “huffing multiple cans of pressurized whipped cream” while walking through the store. The suspect used eight cans of whipped cream and hid the empty containers on shelves.”

North Dakota Man Convicted in 12th Huffing Arrest

A 38 year old man who had been “convicted 9 times of inhaling intoxicating vapors since 2006” was arrested again last Saturday. This latest incident marked his third arrest for huffing in the past two months.

Police responded to a call regarding a man who was reportedly having medical issues in his car in a Kmart parking lot. Upon responding they found a man slumped over in the driver’s seat. He then raised a can of computer duster to his nose and began huffing the product. Police arrested the man on “suspicion of inhaling intoxicating vapors, which is a Class B misdemeanor under North Dakota law.”

The article also notes the man was convicted of the same charge nine times between August 2006 and March 2010. Two cases remain open stemming from arrests Dec. 14 and Jan. 7.”

Felony Charges in Wisconsin Huffing Incident

Last month a 16 year old male was found in a school bathroom, unconscious and bleeding from the mouth. A custodian found the boy who later told police and school officials that he had been pushed by another student.

School officials checked surveillance video and questioned an 18 year old male who had been in the bathroom at the same time. He said the two had been texting and agreed to meet in the bathroom. When he came out of the stall he saw the 16 year old lying on the floor but instead of checking him, he just left him and went to class.

Eventually, both students admitted the incident involved inhalant abuse. The 16 year old admitted he had bought a can of computer dusting spray after “seeing a report on MTV about huffing.” The 18 year old had the can and the two agreed to meet in the bathroom. The 16 admitted he had “huffed” the product and lost consciousness. The 18 year old has been charged with second degree reckless endangerment, distributing a hazardous substance while knowing that it would be abused, and misdemeanor disorderly conduct and contributing to the delinquency of a child.”

Mom Calls Cops on Son for Huffing

The police blotter for January 9th notes that at 12:21 pm a woman called police out of concern for her 16 year-old son. He was in the bathroom abusing inhalants, had a two-inch cut on his head, and was being very uncooperative.

15 Year Old Dead in Kentucky After Using Inhalants

Huffing Leads to Arrest for Weapon Possession in Florida

Last Wednesday, a 20 year old man was arrested on charges of possessing a weapon on school property. The article notes that the man had been questioned by school security officers that afternoon after he had been seen huffing computer dusting spray. When police checked his car they found a 12-gauge shotgun.

One Driver-Two Inhalant Crashes in Less than 2 Hours

Earlier this week a 33 year old woman was involved in two inhalant related car crashes in less than two hours.

At 2:47 am, police contacted her after she hit a snowdrift. She claimed someone else was driving the car but also admitted she had been huffing and had passed out. Police found an inhalant in the car and cited her with inhaling an intoxicant.

At 4:31 am, police responded to a call of a car crashing into a light pole. At the scene they found the same driver “inhaling a substance while waiting in a city’s snowplow.” In the car they found a Wal-Mart receipt where two aerosol cans had been purchased 13 minutes prior to the crash.

Damage to the power pole is estimated at $3,000 and damage to her car is estimated at $8,000. She was arrested and jailed on “suspicion of huffing and willful reckless driving, both misdemeanors.”

Frighteningly, the article also points out that she is also facing a separate huffing charge from a December 13 incident.

Inhalant Related Hit and Run in Fargo, ND

Police are investigating an inhalant related incident that occurred last Wednesday. An individual’s car was allegedly rear-ended and the car immediately sped off after impact. The victim pursued the other car and contacted police.

Officers contacted the vehicle’s registered owner who allowed officers to enter the garage. There they found a 21 year old man slumped over in the driver’s seat. When police approached the man began to huff from a can of computer duster in his hand.

The 21 year old was arrested on suspicion of “inhaling volatile chemicals, driving under suspension and duty upon striking a fixture.”

Huffing Sends Indiana Man Back to Jail 4 Days Later

On Monday, an Evansville man was arrested after police saw him drive across the center line of a road and end up on the shoulder. The officer noted that the driver “looked and acted very intoxicated.” Inside the car they found “six cans of computer duster, along with receipts showing they were purchased that day.” The driver admitted he had been huffing.

The article notes that the man had just been released from jail four days earlier on a charge of reckless driving. He’s now charged with “driving intoxicated, huffing and a couple of minor traffic infractions.”

Man Caught Huffing Paint in South Carolina

This past Sunday, a deputy noticed a man stagger out of the woods near an Interstate overpass. As the deputy got closer he realized the man was “unstable on his feet and had slurred speech.” In addition, he had silver paint all over his mouth and nose.

The man admitted he had been huffing and was arrested on a charge of public disorderly conduct and booked into the local detention center.

Two 14 Year-Olds Caught Huffing After Tagging Texas Business

Two 14-year old boys were caught huffing paint from a plastic bag after tagging a local business in Northeast El Paso. The teens were detained and turned over to the Juvenile Probation Department.

Maine Man Charged with Huffing & Littering

Last month a 36 year old man allegedly “stole a can of computer dusting spray, inhaled the contents in two locations, and then littered , by throwing the can from the car, when done.”

He is charged with four counts including misdemeanor count of theft and a violation-level count of inhaling vapors for effect. He was released on $2,500 personal recognizance bail and his arraigmnet is set for today.
